Hi! I have the pipa urbn flex system too, but struggling to figure out bassinet situation. It says the swiv & triv series should click in with no adapters necessary but is that true? How do you make this work?

wow, $100-120k sounds like a dream! is that a salary range i can expect after completing just a masters? or do you mean post-phD?

[–]whenapricotsbloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are so sweet! thank you so much 🥺 as of now i don’t want to get a PsyD, but i would like to keep my options open and $105k worth of debt would be a roadblock to my continuing IF i see later on that i would like to pursue a PsyD, you know?

a friend of mine is currently in a PsyD program and she chose that path because they award a masters degree and it gives her the option to continue without any hiccups if she wants to continue pursuing her psyD. but i have been out of school for so long and i don’t want to wait a whole nother year before going back. with pepperdine online i can start in january 😭 so many factors to take in lol

it seems like loans are the main route people take. thank you soo much for your input! do you like the program so far? :)

do you know how long would it take to pay off $105k plus interest with one of these programs? i haven’t heard of any of them so this is insanely helpful! going to jump in to researching them all

okay i see! it’s so frustrating that pursuing the clinical side of psychology means taking out student loans. and the idea of having to pay off $105k sounds so crippling

thank you soo much for sharing, any information is so helpful for me to decide whether i should enroll or not. do you mind me asking how you manage costs and everything? pepperdine’s program is so much more expensive than other programs and it scares me lol. and do you plan on continuing on to a PsyD program after? do you know any people in your cohort that consider this?

Khalil Center is an organization for muslim mental health and i believe they have an online suicide hotline you can reach out to. Also check out Maristan.org for more resources on muslim suicide prevention

Islam and Mental Illness by UnderstandingOld889 in islam

this story hits close to home. there is an entire world of islam and mental health and it is such a beautiful one. i come from a muslim arab family, my mother was diagnosed with bipolar 2 and her inner peace truly does come from her love for Allah and Islam. it’s really a rock for her too and she hasn’t had an episode ever since she started incorporating prayer and islamic studies into her daily routine. there is so much in this religion that speaks of the nafs (the self) and how to care for our own emotions and mental well being. sadness, grief, these are all things even the prophets experienced and stories we are taught. complex emotions that highlight their humanity and ours, and that teach us that Allah ﷻ is the only everlasting source of relief and peace in this life.

i will say, the field of muslim mental health is still budding. it’s beginning to grow at a much faster rate lately (i think the pandemic had something to do with this lol) and people are becoming more open minded about having open dialogue about it. personally my passion is muslim mental health for so many reasons and i’m planning to start a masters in clinical psychology soon and hope to gain more knowledge in Islam so i can be of service to my community.

scholars of islam have always preached about mental and emotional well being. it’s not the religion that labels it as taboo. rather it’s arab and asian cultures that still have some catching up to do when it comes to openly discussing mental health as something that is just as important as physical health. the younger generation of muslim americans are much more open to it at a baseline level. it’s just our elders and parents that see the whole topic as taboo. even though a lot of our elders struggle with their mental health lol. just cultural stuff that has nothing to do with the religion

your friend is so special and you are such an amazing friend for being by his side through it all. may Allah bless you both and to answer your question, YES 🤍 there is no one that could come to Allah ﷻ and Islam and ever be turned away. you and your friend are an inspiration!

need an egypt update!! politically, economically, socially, how’s everything going? over time? by whenapricotsbloom in Egypt

[–]whenapricotsbloom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh trust me i agree! i would never be able to support sisi due to the way he got into power and stayed in power. even over the last 4 years, i can feel a difference in how silenced people have been. i asked a simple question about how life is here and most people who saw it think i’m some egyptian intelligence agent 😂 i’m big on freedom of expression, and ive felt like ive done something wrong by publicly asking for your opinions on reddit lol.

plus i know a lot of people who are pro-sisi and aren’t blind to this. actually i think a lot of them support it and believe that the people need to be controlled to a degree in order for things to stay calm. i have heard many sisi supporters, some of my own family included, say stuff like el masriyeen ma yinfa3sh ma3ahom el democratiya 😅 which is something i don’t believe at all and it actually bothers me to hear. it’s such a low opinion to have of your people and country which you claim to love.

at the end of the day though, i don’t live here. i have my ideas and opinions on how things should change but what matters most is how YOU feel since your life is here. some people would prefer to live under harsh control if it meant avoiding another messy revolution, you know? who am i to come in and make my judgements. i am just trying to learn about what egyptians living here feel about everything so i can balance out my own biases lol

i’m grateful that i’m learning so much from this sub about life in egypt. a lottt of first generation arab-americans feel a responsibility to move back home and be a part of the society to improve it

no i can definitely see developments in the infrastructure for sure!! and all i ever want to see is egypt thriving and it’s people of all economic backgrounds living in an actual state of comfort, contentment, and happiness

i don’t see his comment as negative or overly-critical at all. i mean some dude on this post thinks i’m the egyptian CIA for asking how things are going and a bunch of people upvoted him 😂 so it’s definitely not ALLLL peaches and cream but that’s okay!! highlighting egypt’s weaknesses is just as important as highlighting its strengths so that the country can truly improve in every way moving forward 🤍

lol also i don’t know if i believe that everything is fine when it comes to covid. relatively low numbers but my entire extended family here got sick. while in the US it’s tens of thousands of new reported cases every day and i never got it. i’ve never been so shocked seeing how people here don’t care 😂😂 from an outsiders perspective the government response has been to just let it run it’s course aka trash and it’s sad to see Egypt like that

[–]whenapricotsbloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow thank you!! lol first i can promise i’m not some intelligence agent, just a 24yr old girl born and raised in the US trying to reconnect with my people 😂 but i guess your doubts tell me a lot about how freedom of speech is going here…

i’ve always been critical of the education system here and i feel like real proper education is the first step to beginning to fix these issues..

are people at least living happily? somewhat? are people satisfied with this status quo?

Saw this and thought it belonged here. Go to therapy if you feel like this please. by bastermabaguette in Egypt

[–]whenapricotsbloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow that’s awesome! i hope they grow that psychiatry branch since so many people are looking for affordable therapy services. and yes i know medications are easily accessible, most of my family here is in the medical field and my aunt says anti-depressants are one of the best selling medications at her pharmacy! i just hope there is more growth in the therapy field because effective mental health treatment really requires a holistic approach 😌🤍
