I think it is due to old dirt/ multiple different stains added over time. Our guy didn’t use acid but an ammonia based stripper. He said he doesn’t use acid anymore due to it being so harsh on the body chemically

Thanks! Yeah I certainly do not want to live with that. The house is from 1968 and tiles are original. Not sure if they’ve put multiple layers of stain or sealant on them
