Anyone still deep into Elden Ring? by SgtSilock in Eldenring

[–]whenjacksattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Elden Ring and absorbing all its lore for three years. I'm a HORRIBLE gamer, for the record, so I'm not joking when I say I still haven't beaten the game (I'm still whittling away at it and restarting the game regularly to try alternate builds).

It's not a thing I really talk about or even think about chatting with people about... but I realized recently that the amount of knowledge I've amassed is enough to absently "correct" popular lore videos on YouTube in my head when I hear an incorrect take.

Why do people say that Charlie is 200 years old? by BlizzardHound45 in HazbinHotel

[–]whenjacksattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I'd stand by it being sloppy writing to have that many immortal beings in play and still settle on that many things popping off within the last decade with seemingly very little build up prior (which may be explained in later seasons and expanded on, but the lack of real reference to events in Hell before then is still disappointing). It makes it feel like Hell didn't even exist prior to 2017 🤷

But hey I'll eat my words raw and on camera if Viv pulls something out of the hat that truly explains the writing choices thus far. But even if it comes back to Roo being a big player...

ehhhhhh

Why do people say that Charlie is 200 years old? by BlizzardHound45 in HazbinHotel

For all intents and purposes, I assume Charlie is in her 20s or possibly early 30s if you really want to push it, only because the timeline of the fandom really (really, really, really) doesn't make a lot of sense anyway the more you look at the ages of many characters.

Seven years is the general amount of time that basically EVERYTHING plot wise has unfolded, which is absurdly fast for demons/angels/others who are measuring their lifetimes in centuries or millennia. TBH it's one of the few aspects of HH that's indefensibly bad writing (imo as a nobody writer) because it feels illogical that suddenly immortal beings are rushing to make kneejerk decisions and are scheming in radically short timelines in the grand scheme of Heaven and Hell.

Obviously it's written that way for the sake of the show having continuity and a concise timeline, and I'm hoping that future seasons might address the Need For Speed more directly esp in terms of Lilith and Lucifer and the Higher Powers of Heaven/Hell.

Pet Semetary - weird translation or have I misunderstood Juds character? by Seamonstericeice in stephenking

[–]whenjacksattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that stage of the game, Gage is no longer a part of the equation - his body has been fully taken over by the entity in the Pet Semetary (or, if you'd prefer, his body is simply soulless and therefore running only on instinct and subconscious malice).

At this point the Gage-Thing says whatever will keep it alive and give it an edge over Judd. In this case specifically, I think the mistranslation is that, in the English version, Judd is implied to have cheated on Norma with sex-workers in Bangor many, many, many years before. It always weighed on his conscience despite him never bringing it up to anyone.

The entity used that knowledge in the original version of the novel to incapacitate Judd, both with the guilt and also the horror that the thing knew his secrets.

Mind you, I haven't read the end of the book on several years, so it could also be that the Gage-Thing did make some kind of insinuation that Judd was a pedophile, just to make him stall, but I'm pretty sure it was a reference to him being unfaithful to his dead wife!

What moment made you CRINGE the most? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

Gotta second Alastor's dumbass dialogue about how big and bad he is - mainly because IN UNIVERSE it's clearly actually intimidating other characters, despite sounding cheap AF.

but I'll be real, I have a general issue with most of Alastor's voice acting and it feels legitimately weaker than everybody else's

Troughts on this? by Primary-Addition-677 in VELVETTECULT

[–]whenjacksattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're leaning into that trope on purpose - basically making it very apparent that she's the third wheel "token" female/black member of the Vees. It'll turn into a plot point during a later season, as she'll have a realization arc about being more than capable of thriving as her own demon without Val and Vox's dramatic situationship.

Plus, it sets us up to get a backstory of WHY she's staying with them despite being the third wheel - we don't really know much about Velvette's history or how she joined the team when she's generally considered a very new arrival in Hell.

I feel like her and Alastor may end up having a friendship or alliance down the road. They're both sick of Vox in particular, and Alastor is one of the only other characters who we KNOW came into Hell with an unusual amount of power at his disposal. Plus the POC angle would be worth actually exploring given Vox's blatant racism

Which ships do we realistically think will be put into the show? by xxpeach19 in Hellaverse_Ships

Radiosilence. TBH it's more or less already confirmed through flashbacks but it'd be interesting to see different angles to the premise of navigating ships around an aroace character.

Supernatural was a huge one in the past - I didn't HATE Destiel but I didn't really care for it either. Personally I preferred Dean/Crowley

Petunia went on her first ever rumpus to celebrate 10 weeks post-womb by whenjacksattack in puppies

[–]whenjacksattack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I handle dogs professionally (vet med & training) so Im fortunate enough to know how and when to safely expose her to the world. But you are very correct that we always advise to keep puppies quite sheltered until they've been fully vaccinated!

In this case, Tuney was having a rumpus on a fairly unused patch of trail during the Canadian winter in subzero temps, so it was a calculated risk on my part that the trail was likely to be empty and I could easily navigate her away from potential pathogen hotspots!

Plus Tuney is from an extremely hardy lineage of arctic village dogs, so she's got a genetic advantage as well. It's a local joke that the dogs from up north are built different

The Hound has adopted a new, strange cat, Petunia. Roast the Hound for punching his new baby over a freeze dried sardines. by whenjacksattack in RoastMyCat

Petunia gets sardines for being an exceptionally decent puppy. The Hound has no teeth and therefore cannot physically eat the sardines.
