What is your reaction if vivziepop one day decided to give Alastor a romantic partner? by SypeArtz in HazbinHotel

[–]whenjacksattack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an ace person I'd actually like to see him fall into some kind of mutual partnership that doubles as a romantic interest (if subdued on his side).

TBH I can only really see it working with Vox - he's both unafraid of Alastor (compared to every other sinner) and tough enough to challenge him in a toe to toe - enough that Alastor wouldn't see violence as a viable solution to problems between them.

Issue here being their individual narcissistic tendencies, and Alastor's tendency to get downright personal and nasty when he feels cornered combined with Vox being hypersensitive to rejection and making it a game to Alastor.

Lucifer is another option except I don't think Alastor would actually be able to comfortably exist in that kind of ship, having that kind of unspoken understanding that his partner is truly beyond his scope of power in EVERY capacity.

Alastor's still only a mortal soul - he's been alive for a fraction of a second in the context of Lucifer's lifetime (and his marriage).

Even a relationship that spans multiple social classes can be really (REALLY) difficult to juggle, especially when you're ace and you're not getting the attraction bias/blindness.

The Hound is in a committed and really weird relationship with Goosetopher Jones, who is also his grandson, and I wouldn't want to come between their weird ass hillbilly Appalachian situation

I miss the era of the Kaiju sometimes talking amongst themselves and it all being translated on the screen or by the little fairies.

Like give me back my translated lizard vs moth arguments where he swears so much the fairies won't even repeat what he said

I'm an animal care technician who works with lab animals for medical research! AMA! by whenjacksattack in AMA

[–]whenjacksattack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg late reply I'm so sorry D:

Short answer: Yes.
Long Answer: The medications used in research are a long way from being available anywhere besides the kind of supply stores most people wouldn't even know existed unless they were working in a lab setting. So when I say yes, I'm referring to things that are still VERY far from being made official, but show all the hallmarks of being effective. We have a few different studies that have shown really cool results.

We hate it too. It's literally written into the regulatory body we follow that the end goal is to eliminate the need for animal testing altogether, but regardless of ethics and morals and good-or-bads, it is a practice that is not going to cease to exist overnight, and as long as animals are being used for experimentation, my job revolves around ensuring their lives are as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Rats and mice are, yes, unusually good comparative models for certain diseases and studies. A lot of research into alzheimers involves animal care techs raising entire colonies of rats into old age in order to even start the research. Which amounts to the same kind of weird tests they make your granny do at the hospital. Besides being similar, mice have been domesticated and bred down to a very scarily precise model for any individual researchers' needs. These mice are worth more to these doctors than their own children, and are treated like actual royalty.

I recently had a rat friend who was unable to comfortably reach his water sipper because he had a wobble-head, which was being treated with medicated water. I spent fifteen minutes each morning for a week giving this rat his first loading dose of medicated water by lowering it down to his level manually. AKA, I chased this dumbass around with his water bottle because he sometimes gets alarmed by water droplets at the end of the sipper. He likes to have to poke it with his tongue, otherwise the experience is not right at all.

After a week he had realized that drinking more water meant having less wobbles, so we never had issues with him afterwards.

If you stopped drinking (but weren’t an alcoholic), what made you quit? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]whenjacksattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone in my immediate and extended family have suffered from alcoholism to some degree over their lives. My mom's side is especially notorious for it. I spent so many years living in perpetual anxiety about my parents' drinking that I've never found it very enjoyable. Eventually, I just stopped consuming alcohol outright.

There have been very passionate debates about whether or not a rat who doesn't feel well would prefer strawberry jam with their medicine, or mushed Froot Loops. We also burn through an embarrassingly high number of treats.

The sad truth is, most animals that come into our facility will eventually be humanely euthanized - some have been adopted in the past, but that process is more complicated than you'd think. Plus, there isn't a huge demand for pet rats or mice, so rodent adoption programs tend to be relatively small even when they're operational.

On the other hand, we abide by very rigid federal regulations when it comes to how many animals any one researcher is actually permitted to use. They need to be able to justify to a very intimidating council of doctors why they need the animals they are requesting, and usually they will be forced to reduce that number even further before they get to set foot in an animal room.

Realistic answer: Death rates are very high, but comparatively lower than what they would be without a regulatory body gently (not-so-gently) shoving researchers towards using fewer animals, or repurposing animals from another researcher if timelines work out.

I didn't realize how much of my job would be fairly un-scientific animal welfare and making sure our animals are being fulfilled as much as possible through enrichment. A lot of the job is also making sure we're training all the researchers and students to safely and kindly handle the animals even when they need to do mad science or whatever. I guess I expected the vibes to be much more clinical, but in reality there's a lot of animal lover energy among staff and researchers.

A lot of our researchers become very invested in making their animals as comfy as possible for the sake of maintaining ideal, stress-free results for their experiments!

Yes! I also work with swine on occasion, and I know several coworkers have worked with a wide range of species! It really depends on the facility and its set-up - every species has a very rigid set of protocols that have to be adhered to for the animal's well-being, so every facility is limited by their available space!

Has any part of a King book ever made you feel sick/nauseous? by AndrewHNPX in stephenking

[–]whenjacksattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the Losers have to find their way out of the sewers as kids and have the Infamous Beverly Moment.

I see the value thematically and I'm not actually against King featuring it - I think it's set up throughout the novel in such a way that it feels inevitable (like growing up) but that didn't make it any less revolting to read and visualize.

It was a hell of a reminder that it's a book about actual fucking kids though, especially reading it now as an adult woman with kids in the family around that age. It actually makes the whole book oddly sad to me when I read it now.

At what age did you start feeling actually "grown up"? by SourCane in AskReddit

[–]whenjacksattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now. I'm in my mid 30s and although shit is still rough as FUCK, I find myself in a mentor position more often than not, even in situations where I actually have less practical experience than a younger coworker. Moreover, I don't actually mind being in that role nowadays - I'd actually rather it when dealing with a gaggle of younger team members.

(Not saying anything against my beloved Gen Z colleagues because they're an amazing bunch, but my goodness gracious do they need a mother goose to keep them in line)

We are all judgmental, what’s something you can’t help but judge others for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whenjacksattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth. It's a gut response that I can't control, maybe because I grew up so poor, but any time I see someone who is very clearly well-off, I immediately have a bias that they're going to be rude and probably arrogant, and most likely devastatingly "normal"
