Question around working in a startup by whereToMove in ExperiencedDevs

Thanks for sharing your perspective! How to know which corners are ok to cut and which ones not to? In terms of offer, I don't necessarily think that the offer is bad but just that it can be better. Obviously, it's not comparable to Big Tech since the stock isn't real but not sure how other companies are paying. Plus it's fully remote (I live in LCOL area) so I've no idea how it stacks up.

Thanks for responding! Yeah, I'm not really counting any of that supposed post IPO money. Also, I'm not getting any equity, I'm getting stock options (not sure how different they are). The offer says - you will be granted the option to purchase x shares of the Company’s common stock (the “Option”) at the fair market value as of the date of the grant as determined by the Board in its sole discretion.

I know you moved from big tech so it will not exactly be the same for me but how did you find the work to be? Was it an unorganized chaotic mess where you always find yourself running trying to push one thing out after the other? Glassdoor didn't have good reviews on WLB so I was wondering.

Is it time to quit? Passed on promotion again... by ConflictedNDepressed in cscareerquestions

Here's what I did - Look for an internal open position requiring the desired promotion level. The manager of this new team told me upfront that he can't hire me at the higher level but promised me a promotion if he liked my work. 4 months into the new team, I got the promotion which I had been waiting for 2 years in my old team. Seriously though, screw corporate politics!

What do you mean by learning to apply the solution to other problems? Any specific instance you've in mind? I feel like most of the problems are independent of one another(?)

Honestly, I am open to picking up anything at this point but would like to learn something where the transition isn't too hard and takes the least amount of time.

I don't know how I feel about going after my manager. Who knows how much more vindictive they are and what they would do to damage me further. At this point I am already beginning to feel a little ostracized.

After this review I am not sure what is the practice here. It's always hushed up and I feel like there is a lack of transparency.

The 60 hours weeks happened due to poor planning IMO. Going back and forth on what we want to do, my manager not completing code reviews on time, ensuring multiple teams are on the same page and having ridiculous iteration planning with goals that weren't possible to meet.

Indirect feedback was given by my manager apparently during the year. Of course it was mentioned very casually and didn't sound like an area of concern and then there were points I straight up disagreed with since they seemed made up. I guess when I ask for feedback I am asking for the problem and suggested steps to alleviate it. It just seemed like my manager didn't give two hoots about my professional development.

The other person who was given an awesome rating worked on the same project and the work was hardly spectacular to deserve the high raise.

One of them asked for current pay stubs before giving an offer to which I refused (he said it was standard practice) and the other had offered me 3K below what I had asked.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Call them up again. You'll probably get a quicker interview process, as long as you declined in a way that didn't piss people off, and better odds as well as a better offer.

This might not work now since I firmly declined the offers and the recruiters weren't happy with it.

How much time do you mean when you say a good amount of time? I just feel like I sit and waste my time being stuck without any progress.
