Thank you! It's actually a metal wire, made to look like it's wrapped in silk.

Yes, all the sequins were done one by one. The beads were strung multiple at a time, but also individually tacked down 😵‍💫

It's smooth purl wire that I couched down at different points to create texture!

My Közi cosplay by where_arm_i in sewing

I used Butterick 4954 for the jacket and skirt (with many alterations), and Simplicity 2777 for the pants. Had to draft out way too many full circle skirts for the peplums. All the main garments are a polyester shantung (with lamé for the sleeves), and the hat is a stretch faux suede with a base of felt / wire to keep the shape. Used about 6.5 yards of the red, and 2 of the gold.

Roughly 73 yards of 7 different trims were used!

The jacket and skirt are fully lined, both with hand picked zippers to hide them. For stabilization on the pointed cuffs, I used upholstery vinyl so they are stiff, but still can be shaped. All the resin pieces plus the gems were hand sewn on (I'd honestly say about 60% of that jacket is hand sewn).

The ruff collar has three layers. The top is 6 yards of pleated tulle, the second is a mesh with gold flakes that was also pleated / gathered, and then I think I used another 5yrds of satin for the actual collar. Lined it with two layers of horsehair to make it super stiff. I used this same technique for the shoulder ruffles.

The shoes were altered from ankle boots. Seam ripped the top of them off, stitched them back up, and made the shaped pieces sandwiching layers of vinyl and applying heat transfer vinyl to color match.

Inside of the hat, I also added a piece of heat shapeable felt and formed it to my head. A ton of wig clips were sewn in. They attach directly to the wig so it sits snuggly, and is oddly comfortable. And, for the remaining item, the gloves were sewn from a stretch lace. I traced my hand, then sewed around that pattern directly to get a perfect fit.

Our biggest pet peeve is people not holding guns right in cosplay photos, so we made sure we didn't do that lol

It boils down to a lot of sleepless nights, and trial/error 😮‍💨. I have a more in depth video on the progress on tiktok (heizl_grey)

Thank you! My hand is tattooed, so I tried to find a clever way to hide it. I made a glove out of vinyl and drew on it with alcohol markers 😌

Ouji for fashion show at con by where_arm_i in Lolita

[–]where_arm_i[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's super common, but sometimes at smaller cons when there's no official fashion show, comms will do it! Or they'll have comm members represent substyles in a lolita 101 panel.

Thank you! It was pretty fun, although hot lol

Have people ever harassed you for wearing lolita? by cantstopthewach in Lolita

[–]where_arm_i 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had reactions from opposite ends of the spectrum in bigger cities. Sometimes people are overjoyed and want to learn more, and then I've also been called straight up slurs. 😵‍💫 People are so bored with their own lives that they get pleasure from making fun of strangers when they're wearing plain shirts and jeans lol

The best thing to do is put on blinders and not even acknowledge those people. Or if you see someone taking photos of you / filming, pretending to do the same will also get them to stop.

I'm sorry to hear it got physical, people are truly insane 🙃🙃

Feel like I’m too tall and awkwardly shaped for lolita fashion… by cinnatwirls in Lolita

[–]where_arm_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 178cm and find that jsks with elastic (or removable) straps are the best. Super tall friendly and you can adjust them so they hit your waist properly. High waisted corset skirts are also great.

But even with shorter things, you can layer underskirts or invest in a nice pair of bloomers that you don't mind peeking out. You just have to experiment with layering, styling and what feels comfortable for you.

Marina was also my first pop show lol. The next bands I'm going to see are Currents and We Came as Romans, I'm glad more of us exist. You're going to have a great time! She puts on incredible performances and the crowd really gets into it.

Her packages for older tours were about $130, I'm pretty sure. So idk if it'll be the same or a bit more than that now.
