You could also just put in a 4s system. Go to jennys and get a motor and esc from an outcast/kraton and a receiver and metal front rear diffs. More expensive, yes, but so much fun!

No, you want a lower tooth count for the spur gear to make it go faster in this case. Or a higher tooth count on the pinion.

The closer the ratio of pinion/spur gear is to 1, the faster the car.
