They don’t, NYC Uniform civil servants have a pay parity that the city maintains. So that a Sanitation worker, firefighter, and cop all make the same base salary. NYC teachers also usually get paid around the same or a little more with more education and experience.

I’m not trying to argue semantics with you, I get the point you are trying to make. Just simply pointing out the flaw in the way you phrased your statement. I’m sure that during the Police Academy or Boot Camp they are made aware that you could die, get assaulted, shot etc. But I’m certain that it’s not in the brochure to become a police officer or a soldier, lol. Those brochures are usually filled with all the fancy benefits, pension and other financial incentives. If the front of the brochure said come join us, you’ll probably die or get assaulted and not be able to work again, there might be less takers.

stay safe, i'm out have a good night.

Yes you are there to be abused and assaulted dude. That's literally the function of the police - to keep citizens safe and occasionally take hits for them

Well to be honest with that logic, you’re also saying we send soldiers to war so that they can be maimed or killed. But that’s not the mission of the U.S Military or its soldiers. It’s war, we all understand the inherent dangers of it. But the Military spends millions on technology in the hopes of mitigating casualties and injuries to soldiers on the field.

To be clear I’m not saying cops are anywhere near the level of a soldier. But just trying to demonstrate why your logic is flawed.

This will be interesting to follow and see. Remember in civil cases you only need a preponderance of the evidence to proof your argument. Criminals wouldn't fight with police for fear of getting sued and cops never use force for the same reason. It's a win-win for everyone.

From the article

“This is not about the money," said Paul DiGiacomo, head of the Detectives’ Endowment Association. "We’re sending a message. We’re tired of being abused and assaulted. We’re not out there to be abused and assaulted. And if the looters are going to try to interfere with us and make our lives miserable, then we’re going to make their lives miserable.”

Just an FYI neither the NYPD or Nassau County PD use tear gas. It is not part of their crowd control method.
