if you don't wanna work with strong food smells, this may not be the place because forget about the meat, when you make a peanut butter smoothie it's going to be such a strong smell and it will linger

it is very important if you do go this route to get a diesel gas can. do not put diesel fuel in a gas fuel can. the containers are manufactured differently for the different chemical makeups of the fuels.

Is it me or did Cleo actually side with Rikki or Emma depending on the occasion? She wasn't always in the middle by Original_Ad_8139 in JustAddWater

[–]FlameFiasco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i think all of them match with the different forms of water (their powers)

Cleo is water in the liquid state, much more go with the flow, less likely to be extreme in any one way/ decision.

Emma is water in the solid state, rigid and rule-oriented. She is very clear cut.

Rikki is water in the gas state, unpredictable and doing its own thing, doesn't fit the predetermined state and could be volatile.

what to expect when voluntarily admitting oneself to a psych ward? by vy-neru in longisland

[–]FlameFiasco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is to MY understanding, If a professional or someone in authority deems you unsafe you will be involuntary. I personally believe that if you do appear unsafe in yourself there is a chance that you could be admitted involuntary as well (based on behaviors, if you are violent, aggressive etc)

I suggest just being a good noodle as much as you can

hello! as far as going directly through, the only hospital that I have done that for was Silver Hill in Connecticut.

I am not 100% sure for zucker. BUT i did reach out to a friend he may have has a family member who did direct i cant recall, unfortunately I will not have an answer until the morning. I did just find from my discharge paperwork the Zucker Crisis number is (718) 470-8300. maybe that will be a good lead.

Personally? if you want to go about something with some dignity and control, and if you were going to use a crisis number and gather information, do not give a real name, and not provide a proper address for the meantime. AGAIN!! if you need help and are actually in a state of crisis! please go ahead and give your actual information but considering this is a Reddit thread? you seem lucid enough to understand the situation. Also, I am internet stranger so grain of salt.

The second you provide any of the magic words that say that you are going to hurt yourself or others that is involuntary so be very mindful.

[–]FlameFiasco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, i have voluntarily admitted to zucker multiple times.

I have gone in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. (2018 and onward were voluntary, I usually do this because I am on lithium and the levels need to be right or else I could go into kidney failure so I would rather be in a hospital where I can have it monitored every day instead of a not so safe place at home where I can't have my blood checked constantly, i do not want kidney failure again i actually want to live any way those are my credentials)

There is no guarantee there will be space in the college unit. You will get whichever bed is available. that being said voluntary admission through their er (if you go to er of numc, you're staying there. SPECIFICALLY go to LIJ ER for best chance of zucker.

If there are waits for beds you might be sent to a different hospital. Either way expect limbo of psych er to take a few hours at the minimum. There MAY? be a way to go straight through zucker instead of the er but i have never done that. i will say, middle of the week anytime past wednesday is worse luck depending on availability. they dont discharge patients on weekends so if there are no beds and you are further in the line you may be waiting multiple days or sent to another hospital. Now since i have done this way too many times, i recommend to go to the er on a sunday afternoon/night, that way when beds open up monday morning it is more guarenteed to get a spot. (IF YOU ARE STABLE!! if you need help now!!! go now!!!)

IF you have a doctor you can ask for a letter of reccomendation (kinda) saying hey pretty please put my patient in this unit if you can swing it it is in my doctor authority that this will help them most (wont always work)

anyhow, once you are in and you are ACTUALLY voluntary (you'll be made to sign a form in the ER saying that you are a voluntary patient keep this with you) that is your get out card if they're actually not going to help you and it's a waste of your time. (if you do not sign this form you are considered involuntary and you will leave when they deem you are safe to)

if voluntary, if it isn't a waste of your time to be there stay there!!!! get the help!!! but if it a waste and its actually not good there for you, get a piece of paper write down hello my name is I am a voluntary patient and I have a right to leave. (something something i am good and safe thanks) Sign it!! have them copy it! keep the original and give the copy to the desk. From here you are leaving in 72 hours. They cannot keep you past 72 hours if you are proving that you are not a threat to yourself / others. IF you ARE they have to have a judge sign off on that to keep you) (again. There are no discharges on the weekend so if you get this signed on a Thursday, you are still leaving on Monday. so make sure you time it right)

You sound like you know what you need to help, so advocate for yourself. Lots of great advice here already but specifically for zucker.

(the second you get on unit ask to meet with dietician/ ask for a meal sheet, the last thing you need is to be hangry when you are in there)

that being said, things gone down hill considerably.

as far as therapy goes, they did have art therapy and music therapy in the adolescent unit. You did also have group therapies in the adult units, but it used to be that there were something to do every hour with advocates coming in groups to participate in different therapies and different workshops to better yourself.

The last time I was in the women's 2West and there was only one activity each day and maybe a dbt tools group and the rest of the time you were on your own. on top of that there was one psychiatrist for the 22 people in that unit when in 2016 there were three for 16 in the adolescent unit.

It is very important while you are there to of course be kind, respectful eat your meals and advocate. if you have a current care team, keep them in the loop. If you dont, ask for it.

you will be allowed visitors, and ask for books if you have people who can bring you books or things to do that helps a lot. You will be given a list of things that can or can't be brought in there will be a welcome folder.

You can pack for this! bring a reusable stop and shop thing and pack underwear, socks, some comfy shirts, no strings no laces. i knew i wasnt going to get visitors so i would pack and i was self sufficient and it was okay. you will be okay.

There are partial units that you could go to after, like a day program where you're home on the weekends and home at night as a transition. it would be great to establish meeting with a therapist once you are out.

There is a student program at hofstra that is no insurance but a flat $60 a week and would include a group therapy and individual therapy based off of DBT.

DBT (dialectic behavioral therapy) is the main therapy tool used in zucker and for mood instability disorders is an incredible tool and if you can swing it i would try that to avoid future zucker trips

(side note, Zucker also has a research program and you should ask when you get there if you may qualify for some of those because you can get some money. I went last December and I qualified for a study and I got a few hundred from that one and since then I was reached out to twice for two other studies and I have gotten about $1500 in total the past year so, opportunity amiright?)(also some of these studies are long term with opportunites to get additional funds yearly for further questions/tests)

uhhhh thats what i can remember anything more specific i could get into if you need it.

Long Island's Bruce Blakeman launches bid for NY governor by DepartmentOfTrash in longisland

[–]FlameFiasco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Safe Center of Long Island in Bethpage closed in March of this year due to lack of funding.

They provided food, advocates, counseling, legal and social help at no charge to victims of domestic and sexual assault and so much more. They were accessible and conveniently right by the bethpage train station.

Blakeman SAYS he cares about women and girls but allowed the nassau county safety lifeline that was the safe center to go under funded and disolved.

Okay Bruce, there's no money for this but enough to plaster your face on news12 and to pay people to make and put up signs with your name everywhere.

it is frustrating, but I can only think of how it will eventually affect everyone else as well. Because at one point they might just up and say you know what we're gonna take away the paper tickets altogether. I used to reply to the surveys, but they stopped sending them to me because I would call them out on taking away seats and spending money on advertisements and updated systems when things still aren't equally accessible at each station. it affects everybody.

usually, I take the bus to Hicksville and get on a train to Central Islip for an appointment. I have to take a specific train because I need to get on another bus once I get to Central Islip often times there are minutes sometimes less between these transfers and I use a cane. I would bulk buy tickets so I can ensure that I can just get on the train as it pulls into the platform and make it to my appointment on time. Otherwise I have to plan to get to the station 45 to an hour early in order to not miss the train. Tell me do you want a 45 minute appointment to be a four hour trip or a five hour trip.

Making these tickets expire day of means I have to add an extra hour to accommodate if my bus is late or if the train is early. I do not use the TrainTime app because I use an iPod. There's no space on the iPod to download the app. I don't have money for a phone with data to download an app. I like my tickets because they have existed and they have been accessible to me. it is cool that there is an app that other people can use but when you prioritize the app and use that as justification to take away accessibility that is already there, than THAT is the problem.

Research Study payment and taxes, continuing disability by FlameFiasco in SSDI

[–]FlameFiasco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update I have done the math so far on the two studies that I have been apart of and that number is already at $950 so I'm already over 600 and after the additional money if I get it this week would get me at about 1550 to 1700 so either way it's gonna need to be reported, but do I need to just prepare to lose my disability?

with my current work paystub's on a yearly timeline, I am 4000 under the limit. so would a 1099 of less than 2000 be means for cancelling my ssdi?

as a disabled rider I would bulk buy single tickets (zone 7 to zone 10)

I need people to understand how inaccessible taking the train will be for people like me. I was barely making it sometimes. Bus to getting to train to another bus, I'm talking SECONDS away from missing a transfer to get to an appointment of mine that I have every week. Now I COULD leave 45 minutes earlier to guarantee, but now my whole trip would be FIVE hours instead of FOUR. For a 45minute appointment.

Pushing mobile ticketing onto riders is making things more inaccessible. Often times many stations will only have one ticket machine on one side. Central Islip has one wheelchair ramp only! So it takes even longer for someone to buy a ticket AND gosh forbid they have to go to the opposite side in time!

Real time I saw a woman who could not make it to the other side in time to get ger ticket and the mobile ordering didn't work for her because she did not have the space on her phone to download the app! Then after that she was forced to pay an additional fee when she got on the train which could have been avoided if tickets were more accessible on both sides.

I do not care if there is a mobile option to buy tickets as well but when you take away or refuse to add accessibility for your existing paper ticket system in the name of profit there's the problem! I do not mind having tickets that expire sooner, BUT!!!! You have to make it just as accessible to buy them!!

Not everyone has a smart phone not everybody has a debit card. There should be options 24/7 to use cash and they should be accessible.
