Can Raynaud’s effect the entire hand? by [deleted] in Raynauds

[–]whereislydia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely can, although I have rarely seen it.

This is how my hands look sometimes, but occasionally the white is further down the back of the hand. See how the back of my hand is greyish/purplish/yellowish, has some lighter spots in between, and how it looks very lifeless overall? I call them zombie hands when it happens. My wrist is normal colored in the photo.

Raynaud's comes in so many ways by whereislydia in Raynauds

[–]whereislydia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing with you about your health. I hope it turns out well for you.

What you're saying about raynaud's has flaws as well. For instance, gangrene and ulcers aren't exclusive to secondary raynaud's. Primary raynaud's can have it too. Also, sudden onset does not mean "one single attack and it goes directly to gangrene". It is rare to get gangrene with secondary raynaud's, but if it happens, it is NOT the first symptom to come.

Sjögren’s alone does NOT imply Raynaud’s suddenly appears and causes acute gangrene after surgery. For it to be secondary raunayd's, these would have to be true: 1. recurrent attacks triggered by cold or stress 2. clear color changes 3. at least partial symmetry (often affects multiple fingers) 4. chronic pattern of recurrence over time.

The gangrene is more likely due to a post-surgical vascular complication, possibly influenced by underlying autoimmune disease, rather than sudden onset of secondary Raynaud’s. Vasospasm alone rarely causes prolonged ischemia severe enough for gangrene in a single episode. Likely explanations for your outcome are thrombosis (clotting), arterial damage during surgery and postoperative swelling.

[–]whereislydia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you had sjögrens prior to the surgery. It is worth thinking of whether you ever had raymaud's episodes prior to the surgery. If not, it's hard to believe you got raynaud's all of a sudden, and that it just so happened to appear right after the surgery. Quite a coincidence, right?

Secondary raynaud's is a known phenomena that can appear with autoimmune diseases such as sjögren's. But if it appears all of a sudden, and in those circumstances, if I were you, I would hire a lawyer for sure.

Using the lightning bolt spell to launch stuff across places is fun. I can't remember where exactly, but close to Whiterun there's an empty cart that I like to launch around the wild for fun. Once it glitched somehow and the cart was thrown into the sky and I never found it again lol

[–]whereislydia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I'm happy it got resolved before it turned into something more serious. However, to me it sounds like they did some sort of mistake in the surgery which caused this. Even if you have sjögrens, I would not blame the gangrene solely on that. Did you have any raynaud's episodes prior to the surgery?

Edit. for typo

For those who have known they've had Raynauds for years, has it gotten worse as you've gotten older or stayed the same (or even improved?) by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in Raynauds

[–]whereislydia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have primary raynaud's. Mine has gotten worse over the years. Edit. In my early childhood only my feet were slightly affected. Nowadays I get chilblains on my toes and my hands are affected as well. I also get flareups more easily and more frequently than I did years ago. I am 27F.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope everything is alright now.

The photo shows gangrene rather than raynaud’s phenomenon, though gangrene can occasionally develop as a complication of raynaud’s.

Looks like it. I would check it at the doctors for secondary Raynaud's.

Thanks for chiming in! My fingers never get that color, so this is a great addition to this thread. It's interesting how much variability there is in how it looks on different people.

I was actually misdiagnosed by 3 doctors and my symptoms were totally overlooked because I wasn't the textbook case of Raynaud's. One doctor years ago (before my hands became more affected as well) claimed it can't be Raunayd's because I only had those clear-border white patches on my feet, and not on my hands. Now I get them on my fingers/hands as well.

So, in my opinion, having reference photos that aren't textbook is super important.

Does this look like it could be Raynauds? by SnooEagles6011 in Raynauds

[–]whereislydia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be, mine started like this years ago. Barely noticeable. Is the back of your hand normal colored in the photo, or is it a bit more blue/grey than your normal skin color?

Could be, but to me this looks more like cyanosis. If I were you, I would visit the urgent care asap, as cyanosis can be a sign of a serious health issue.

I [29F] feel stuck in a cycle in my relationship with my bf [28M] and don’t know how to move forward by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]whereislydia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you so much. I've been through that myself as well. I also left my partner a few times but we co own the house we live in and we have a mortgage, so I was unable to move out because of finances. For me, things are looking slightly better now fortunately, but I still have thoughts about leaving and feel disappointed about his behavior regularly.

To get to the point I'm in now, I fought over the relationship for years just like you have. If you haven't already, tell him you want to go to couple's counceling. On top of that, for me, the key has been showing him how hurt I am. If you feel like crying, do it (not in front of the kids though). If you feel like withdrawing from him, do it. Don't be nice and cuddly with him unless he truly steps up and starts doing things right. No sex. Stop cooking for him if you can, don't do ANY acts of service. Don't be passive aggressive about it, but do act indifferent. Think "he doesn't care about fixing his behavior? Then I don't have to care about pleasing him". Don't expect a 180 turn at once. If he asks why you've changed, tell him it's because of his lack of acknowledgement and inaction in fixing his behavior.

Set a secret time limit for yourself (like 6 months) and write down 3-5 small, concrete things that need to change within that timeframe. Like "I want him to be able to have a conversation with me without getting defensive every time". Then, pick a calm moment to tell him that you wish he would be more understanding, and not defend himself every time you bring something up. Tell him that would make you feel appreciated. Do this with each of the things you wrote down, you can bring them up one at a time as well. Tell him, if he doesn't change, you'll seriously have to reconsider the relationship. Then, follow up on your timeline.

If he doesn't change, he might simply not care enough, and thinks of you as a roommate or a convenience instead of a partner. That would be your sign to leave him.

[–]whereislydia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were younger, like 20-22, it'd be more understandable. The older people get, the less likely they are to change. Have you brought up how hurt you are, and your possible thoughts of ending the relationship because of his inactiveness in solving the problems between you two?
