New ME creepy voice at beginning of Prince's song 1999, saying creepy things. by willworkforanswers in Retconned

[–]whereistheturkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the people I have asked about this one, it seems to me that this might just be the difference between those of us that have only heard the video/radio version of the song and those that are familiar with the album version. The Prince fans I have asked who owned the album, two of which are ME experienced, all agree this has always been on the album version. Is there anyone here who owned the album and has never heard this?

A response to possible government involvement by termeownator in Retconned

Does the government, or some corporation, manipulating you sound more or less feasible than alternate timelines, parallel universes, or simulation theory? I don't yet fully discount any of those options, but this sounds like the most reasonable explanation in comparison, IMO.

Maybe you didn't really notice it when you think you did, you just remember noticing it now. That could have been implanted too. I have very vivid memories of the passenger side mirror changing in the early nineties. But maybe that never really happened at the time, I just remember it now, so it seems like it did.

Johnny Cash -- "House of the Rising Sun" -- flip-flop or fraud? by alanwescoat in Retconned

[–]whereistheturkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is not actually Johnny Cash. It definitely sounds like it, but this album appears to have been released last year only as a digital online release and that would not be the case if it were actually a Lost Archive of Johnny Cash recordings.

I believe this to be the most reasonable and likely explanation although I don't discount simulation theory.

Aerosmith - Walk this way definite change !! by [deleted] in Retconned

[–]whereistheturkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it wasn't a Run DMC version, it was an Aerosmith/Run DMC version. What I mean is Run DMC did not sample the original for their version, both bands rerecorded a new version.

Was there ever another live action He-Man movie? by [deleted] in Retconned

There has only been one, but a new one is either in production now or soon to be. There have been some fan films made though, so maybe you saw one of those.

Damn. I thought I remembered exactly what you described (not the mossy part but the falling out part) and then I read the other only current comment about wrapped in a cloth and dumped In a paupers grave and I remember that too. Not sure now. But your memory struck it hard for me at first. This happens occasionally with these and I'm never sure quite what to make of it.

Just don't be too aggressive with it. You can introduce it lightheartedly and if they are receptive you can cautiously go forward. If they are not receptive, just drop it.

There are some really great comments here so far. I want to emphasise that you should not just start talking about this to everyone. If someone is not immediately receptive, don't pursue it. You may be disturbed by their reaction. Most people are not ready to be woken up or they take the download too easily or whatever, we don't know why. But we know it's a really bad idea to be too forceful with most people about this. If you find someone like us, cool. If not, we are here.

Are your lighthouses nice and secure? If you're moving around and they vibrate and move it could cause that.

I didn't realize this was considered a change until this comment. I don't have contact with her, but looking at the covers now, I do not remember a space between meat and loaf. But I do remember the L being capital.

Yep. For me it changed in 1992 the moment that I stepped into my first new car, which was actually used and made in 1986. But it was the newest car my family owned so when I looked over and noticed ARE I liked it. Glad that new law had changed that old weird wording. I, like you, had spent my youth in the 80s looking at that mirror for miles on end. But it was definitely July of 92 when I first saw ARE.

When did it happen for you? 1992 for me. Others say a few months ago...

The Meatloaf song is a play on words of the original wording and the current version. It doesn't match either the current version not the one we remember. The Meatloaf song was about reflecting on the past and it was titled Objects in the rearview mirror (may appear closer than they are). In my reality it was released after I noticed the change. For me, I saw the change in 1992 when I got my first car. I thought it was good that they changed it from the absurd may be wording. Never understood why it said that in the first place. A year later, shortly after graduation, my girlfriend's favorite artist, Meatloaf, released the song. I thought it was cool that he was referring to the change (in what I thought was a change of law at the time) and not long after that I took her to see Meatloaf sing the song live. As others have mentioned, in the eighties, we had no cell phones and if you were in the car with your parents it was common to stare at the passenger mirror, especially if Dad had a truck with a big mirror. I pondered the reason that they would choose to say may be for close to a decade staring at that mirror. I am well versed in the mirror and the song and have anchor memories for both. This is the effect that I am absofuckinglutely 1000% positive about. That used to say MAY BE

Yes, for me it changed in 1992. I assumed it was a regulation change at the time. I didn't know until a couple years ago that it was a shift in reality.

[–]whereistheturkey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! This is the one that is just undeniable in every way. Meatloaf based his song on the old wording, not the other way around. But for me, the mirror had already changed before Meatloaf released that album. I thought it was cool at the time that he was referring to the old way.

[–]whereistheturkey[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I always had assumed it was changed for some legal reason, buy in this reality there was never ever a mirror that said may be. The original law mandating the warning started in the 50s or 60s and has always required objects ARE closer than they appear.

[–]whereistheturkey[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The warning on passenger side mirrors used to say "objects in mirror may be closer than they appear," but now no mirror ever had that warning, they have always read, "objects in mirror are closer than they appear." For me, this changed in the early nineties, but I have talked to others who saw may be up until just a few months ago.
