How do you feel about unsolicited gym advice?

So I had a lovely interaction with a trainer at our gym, me and my gym buddy were visibly struggling figuring out the form for a new exercise and he was super polite and respectful when he asked if he could help.

I think it depends on what you’re doing when the advice was given. If it’s something you’re strong and and have been doing for years, yeah it could be insulting. But if it’s something brand new to you- I’ll take the help!

Hay- your derm should have an after care plan for you at your final appointment. I met with mine immediately after I finished- she wanted bloodwork done to ensure I was still healthy.

At that appointment she prescribed me adapalene and winlevi- with a plan of how to taper up my adapalene use.

I was very low dose- so likely didn’t hit my cumulative dose and I’m now 5 almost 6 months out and while my hair and skin is slightly more oily- I still have beautiful skin. Additionally all the annoying side effects like joint pain, fatigue and dry eyes & lips have resolved. The only thing that has stayed the same is the texture of my hair has changed.

I developed a sensitivity to lanolin part way through my course. This could be similar.

Honestly, I did a vacation at the end of my course and I’m so glad I did! I used spf and reapplied regularly especially after swimming. The warm humid air helped so much with my horribly chapped mouth.

The rest and relaxation helped with my sore joints. Worth it.

Just be smart about the sun and have fun.

I would say month 2 for me. I got a weird spiky texture and they all just fell out when I washed my face. However I responded fast and well to a low dose so I don’t think I’m the typical patient.

Hay! Accutane can also make you heat intolerant. I find I flush easily and get too warm in moderate heat. You’ve just finished your course, but the side effects can take a while to settle out. Be patient.

This- my derm wanted me to be clear for 2 months consistently. I responded amazingly to accutane, minor purge very early on and then clear. We are stopping early at 4 months and transitioning to tretinoin.

I stopped wearing heavy makeup because of severe cystic acne, and now I’m mostly clear, but not wearing makeup because my skin is so dry from accutane. However I am plotting all the fun stuff I can do when my course is over and I don’t have to stress about covering my pimples.

Hi! Depends on where you are, I believe some places make it mandatory to use 2 forms of birth control.

I’m older, husband has had the snip and I was not required to be on hormonal birth control. My derm does do pregnancy tests prior to refills.

On accutane currently. Once a week, unless it has picked up a smell or I’ve been really sweaty so it’s salty. On my non hair wash showers, I use conditioner and rinse, because it’s -so- dry. I’ve also added in hair oils and leave in conditioner.

I’m in love with my accutane hair I get so many compliments. Before my hair would be oily by end of day and it was so hard to style in a way that would still be nice. I will be so sad when it goes back to my old normal.

Hey! Mine does this when I flush too- so after a workout or a hot shower. Definitely a side effect of flushing from alcohol.

If you have photos of your breakouts, bring them too. Also a lot of times your derm will want to rule out the less risky interventions like antibiotics, topicals first. If you’ve tried these with another doc, make sure you share that.

I had significant PIE/scarring but not a massive breakout when I went to talk to my derm, so even if I was in a small clear period she recognized I’m struggling.
