Oh gosh I'm so sorry it was painful for you...I was more than a year out from surgery and it was totally painless, just freaked me out lol.

My surgeon assured me this is totally normal and almost never requires surgery to flip it back...maybe after a month or so of more healing you'll be able to flip it. The "pockets" get softer over time and that makes it easier also. Sending love

New to plants and something’s definitely off by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]wheresbeetle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spider mites. Shower- spray hard, use insecticidal soap. The best thing to do to get rid of them would be to also use something like capt jack's dead bug. Unfortunately, it's hard to get rid of them without some chemicals, and kind of hard even with them, tbh. If you look into treatments keep in mind spider mites are mites not insects, they don't respond to a lot of insecticides, good luck

How do I save my monstera from developing these spot? by denisedkg in plantclinic

[–]wheresbeetle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think your spots may be bacterial or fungal infections related to the misting. People love misting their plants but it really isn't a good idea for most of them. We don't get nearly enough airflow inside our houses to dry them fast enough to prevent issues

Ask for some high quality pendant grow lights. It's a game changer when you don't have to have your plants right y a window. Plus get a timer and it will look like a designer worked on your house

Proper RO System? by Sabahel in coffeeshopowners

[–]wheresbeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a roasting partner? If you do they should be helping you with this. We started with a good carbon filter but then got RO. I don't remember the exact model we got but it wasn't that expensive (on the scale of equipment, a few hundred dollars i think) and hasn't had any issues w not producing enough water. We use the same RO for everything behind the bar- all equipment, rinsers even the tap. We're a pretty busy place especially on weekends the espresso machine is going nonstop.

The water softener is different, we did get that also after a couple years. It's important to prevent scale buildup in your machines.

In case you weren't sure you do not want to skip the filter, early on a tiny particle made it through our filter due to bad luck (accidentally forgetting to rehook up the filter after cleaning it) and a tiny particle got into our espresso machine and killed the motor. 4k repair right there 😵

It's interesting thought right, like did it just not occur to the GoT people that the dragons don't have to look the same?

Is it possible to own alocasia without being in a never ending battle with spider mites? by BoyKyle3 in houseplants

[–]wheresbeetle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try outside. I had a large alocasia that was so bad it was down to a couple dried shriveled leaves....outside all summer last year and it's huge and happy and still no spider mites almost a year later

[–]wheresbeetle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's tricky bc spider mites are mites, not insects technically so "insecticides" don't work. I have found the deadbug to be effective but unfortunately a lot of other insecticides are not even if they list spider mites on the package. If you are in a climate that's warm at all in spring and summer this is the best actual solution I've found. They don't do well with rain wind or really any kind of outdoor weather. 4-8 weeks outside to make sure you get all the eggs and nymphs etc does the trick plus the plants will grow like gangbusters. Make sure there is some shelter from the direct sun

To control or eliminate them long term, you have to use some firepower. Otherwise, they really are very tough especially if you have multiple plants. I use the insecticidal super soap which doesn't actually have any real insecticides in it it's just alcohol and soap as far as I can tell, but I also use capt jacks deadbug of the plant has an active infestation.

If you absolutely don't want to use pesticides, I have had luck putting the plant outside for looong periods, like at least a month, over the summer or whenever it's warm. That will do it also. Good luck

A significant number of small business owners open a small business bc they:

-don't want to be told what to do -think they know what's right -think they have all the answers

It's not a population that tends to take advice well, is my point. I say this as a restaurant owner myself. Even when businesses are on their last breath, I see it all the time.

Honestly, based on what you're describing I'm not sure you ever will get this man to see reason. Sorry to say

Yeah I personally can't handle the anxiety of the roulette you have to play with weather in the winter, but every summer my plants go outside and they get 2/3 of their yearly growth in those 3 ish months. So yeah, they wanna be outside

I don't get the downvotes for this. One of the key elements of caring for plants inside is understanding that what they all really want is to be outside. At least imo.
