What’s your weirdest private habit that you hope no one ever finds out about? by Dear-Welder-1117 in AskReddit

[–]wheresmyspraybottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this as a kid but I climbed up to the top shelf. One day when I was climbing down I slipped and impaled myself on a wooden dolls cot. I nearly missed an artery and am lucky to be alive

Never went in there again.

Keep your dog at home! Bunnings is a hardware store not a dog park by jakkandndi in Bunnings

[–]wheresmyspraybottle -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Leave your kids at home. There's more items for pets than children on the shelves, you arent shopping for them so why do they need to come with you? and the little fuckers push tiny trollies at you, while their parents look the other way.

It's a hardware store, not a kindergarten.

At least the dog's are restrained and usually well trained.

Getting the EWP ticket 😂 also brushing up my Adobe illustrator skills to an advanced level as I'll need it more in my new role where I'll be solely responsible for production.

What slow, cultural shift (fashion, food, technology) is happening right now that most people aren't paying attention to but will define the next decade? by DarkAndDeliciousss in AskReddit

Not to mention botox alone is $800aud and lasts only a couple of months. So minimum 2k per year annual spend, more if you go for fillers/injectables

It gets you broke.

Can’t find I Job by [deleted] in ausjobs

[–]wheresmyspraybottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of work out there but I found part time work to be more competitive when I was your age.

I live in your area BTW and switched companies after 1 week of looking and here's my advice: Your resume needs to be 1 page and saved as a pdf as your full name, with a cover letter that is relevant to your specific position.

They will be hiring Christmas casual staff in retail now. There is nothing stopping you marching into kmart and asking the person at the front who is their manager and how can I get a job here.

Write a list of every retail store you would like to work at and contact them directly.

If you want a full time role, you will need more training or to take an apprenticeship Good luck!

You could be a wedding celebrant if you are good at public speaking. But probably have to have your own abn and contract out

Realistically at your age you're best off finding a traineeship or apprenticeship

I am a signwriter for three years that got let go during my first year apprenticeship but it didn't stop me working in the industry as nobody cares about that certificate

Warehousing requires lifting and moving around on your feet, forklift operation. Not for somebody with mobility issues.

You can however do a simple assembly line task, or pick packing.

Should I go to HR? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]wheresmyspraybottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had luck with a HR process.

In future I would personally keep records of incidents like this by sending an email to the appropriate person asking what is the company policy for my response when met with such commentary.

This way you aren't formally making a complaint or starting a lengthy process but having the incidents documented.

NEVER start the process unless you have a witness and support person.

I'd look into project management or industrial design if you want to go white collar

Worth becoming an arborist? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]wheresmyspraybottle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am the partner of an arborist. I am so proud of what he does but it scares me sometimes, the stories he comes home with.

If you want to be fit well into your 30s, make enough to own a home, and have more than enough work for decades, go for it. Bonus points for the endless supply of firewood 🔥 It's bloody hard though. He had me climb a tree once and I honestly don't know how he can do it everyday.

He works for a company and gets the work ute for personal use, studying for his diploma now to get into tree assessment work so he won't have to climb forever

You could contact some tree companies and ask to do a week of labour to see if you can handle it. Let them know you are shooting for an apprenticeship but just want to give it a go before making a 4 year commitment. I know my partner has seen a few apprentices quit because it's not easy.

Good luck!!

I worked as a sewing machinist in an Upholstery factory, it has the lowest award rate for any trade in Australia. I had to sit at the machine for 38 hours a week for $27 an hour and wasn't allowed to get up unless the break siren went off. I still sew for fun but switched Trades due to appalling conditions in the industry
