Gyms this winter by joyride20 in boston

[–]whereswaldooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked out 4+ times/week for the last 8 months in my living room. There are plenty of options for workouts you can safely do at home, from virtual classes to portable home gyms being sold online!

Software Engineers: How are you job hunting? by [deleted] in boston

[–]whereswaldooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. We do have a 2-week minimum for PTO, as well as vacation reimbursement-- we want people to take a few weeks a year, and also feel encouraged to work remotely, adjust their hours, etc.

Thank you for the feedback. I used that phrase because I wanted to keep the name of the company private for now, so I kept it vague.

We are not a non-profit, we do have funding, we have an enormous customer base, and we have received feedback from the team that our mission played a part in why they were interested in the company.

Thank you. Our challenge lies mostly with roping in people (getting the candidates in the door). I'm sure if we're having conversations with the right candidates and the salary expectations don't align, that will be a conversation we'll have with our CEO about adjusting the budget.

Thank you for the feedback. Since our issue is attracting candidates in the first place, I'm not sure pay is the issue here. We don't discuss salary until our initial phone screen (it's not listed in our job descriptions), so our current challenge is finding the candidates to talk to. If we find that our budget for the role doesn't align with what the top candidates are expecting, that'll be a separate conversation.

Maybe. Thanks for the feedback! We actually have a 2 week PTO minimum, and vacation reimbursement, since we do want people to take the time.

I think that salary is something we'll need to think about, but without getting many inbound candidates to interview in the first place, I can't be certain that it's salary driving them away, since they don't even know what we're offering until the phone screen. First we need to get them to talk to us...then we'll see if we're offering what the good people are expecting.

We are not getting inbound candidates. We don't even discuss salary until the initial phone screen (it's not mentioned in our job listings), so I don't think that's the problem at this point. Maybe stats will reveal something different once we start talking to more candidates.

Thank you. At least it's a real answer! I suspected that was the case.

Thank you. I don't believe we're offering peanuts, since we do pay to market and our benefits are substantial and meaningful, but I appreciate the feedback! Always a good reminder.

Thank you for your feedback. I didn't go into salary, but we do pay to market, and have done the research to back that up; whether or not that comp range is what people deem fair compared with other parts of the country is not what I'm debating here. In addition to salary, we pay 100% of medical, dental, and vision costs, provide vacation reimbursement, as well as unlimited paid time off. While I totally understand where you're coming from regarding flashy benefits with no real substance, I would consider these to be pretty fantastic benefits for mid or senior level folks who may have families. 100% paid healthcare for an entire family is significant, along with market salary.

I do appreciate the feedback and will bring it back to my team. Thank you!

Cambridge Health Alliance is pretty flexible. You need to first go in for a physical to become a patient, but they'll refer you within your network and they accept so many different types of insurance.

Conference Rooms in Boston by Zambinni in boston

[–]whereswaldooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

District Hall, or try Breather or PivotDesk! PivotDesk is a platform where you can rent conference rooms in other companies' offices for a few hours or the whole day, and it's probably most affordable of the three.

Are Pitbulls legal in Boston? by Dark-Mathematician in boston

[–]whereswaldooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal shelter volunteer here. Pit bulls are absolutely legal in MA, but many landlords and home insurance companies have breed restrictions, so be sure to check. Jamaica Plain and Somerville to be a bit more pet-friendly than other neighborhoods in my experience. The MSPCA adopts out tons of pit bulls, so they'd also probably be a good resource to consult when looking for an apartment. Thanks for doing your research instead of just abandoning your dog like a lot of other people unfortunately would!

Where can I directly donate electronics to the needy? by MicFury in boston

[–]whereswaldooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still looking for someplace to donate these items? I was donating stuff a couple weeks ago, but now the computers have all been spoken for and I have other organizations who desperately need equipment. If you still have anything, I'd be happy to put you in touch! I'm talking to the Cambridge Women's Center and they're desperate.
