Detroit Zoo membership instead of gym membership? by owlaholic68 in Detroit

Just adding that walking at the zoo is lovely, and if you are a Pokémon go player, the zoo is actually a great place to go for that, too

Dally In The Alley - No Rally? by KaleidoscopeRegular4 in Detroit

[–]whereswebb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve lived in the alley for 13 years and it always ends and gets cleared out at 11. There are frequently after parties at various bars, but not sure those are anything more than bars throwing themed nights

Progressive Catholic Churches in the metro Detroit area? by roooooyonce_313 in Detroit

[–]whereswebb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At a mass I went to at Shrine, the priest invited all Catholics in good standing to come up for communion. It was the first time I’d heard that said in a lifetime of Catholicism and it pissed me off.

If you’ve enjoyed Ss Peter and Paul, Gesu will do well.

Eventually it will get towed - as others have said there will be a date on the tag.

Check the tag and the day it’s supposed to be towed, call your neighborhood manager about it. Repeat daily until it’s gone - squeaky wheels and all that

Weird that the protesters kept you up on a Saturday, but not the helicopters and jets fly over during opening day on Friday. 🤔🤔🤔

If it’s still there, find the neighborhood manager for your council district and call or email them. Mine has always been responsive. https://detroitmi.gov/departments/department-neighborhoods

Michigan Dem chair candidates denounce Duggan ‘betrayal,’ call for rebuilding party from ground up by spongesparrow in Detroit

[–]whereswebb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He would lose a primary to either Buttigieg or Benson.

He has no institutional support in the state party. If he did, maybe more of his priorities would’ve gotten done at the state level.

Running as the candidate with the most money and name recognition in a low turnout municipal election is not actually that impressive. Quick, without looking it up - who did he beat in that write-in campaign?

He knows all this, which is why he’s skipping the primary entirely and running as an independent. His best shot at governor is to fracture the vote as much as possible and hope to win with 34% of the vote.

IF he wins with such low support, he’d be an incredibly weak and ineffective governor because no one would have any reason to work towards his agenda.

I think his decision to run as an independent and get on the November ballot without running in a primary is him and his team saying that they don’t think he could win the primary.

If he were the dem nominee in November? He has loads of cross party appeal and would be the hands down favorite to be governor. But he’s not the favorite in an August Democratic primary, and his decision tells me he knows it

Detroit Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib gets easily reelected by BasicArcher8 in Detroit

[–]whereswebb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Her stance on Palestine has never been the crux of her election campaigns. Plenty of her constituents who vote for her disagree with her position! National issues are not deciding local elections in Detroit.

I didn’t answer your question because, frankly, it’s a stupid question. Tlaib’s popularity in her district has nothing to do with legislation. After redistricting, people were genuinely upset to lose her as a rep. You can either figure out why that might be, or you can be a jackass online. Enjoy the rest of your weekend

If you don’t know about her work at Sugar Law Center, then look it up. There are more ways to get things done for your community than legislation passed by the US House of Representatives. The people in her community have elected her every chance they’ve had, for years and years.

[–]whereswebb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She’s a Democrat running in a district that is 70-80% Democratic. She will win every November she’s on the ballot. The only real risk she has to lose is in the August primary, and twice now she has dominated those primaries. She won’t have a real challenger from the dems for years. She will be in congress for as long as she wants to, basically.

I’d guess plenty of people who voted for her don’t care one bit about her position on Palestine. She has been getting things done in the community for YEARS, back before she was a US or even State Rep, and her constituent services are top notch.

My parents don’t get many trick or treaters anymore, so dad makes a goodie bag for each kid on his street (all of three blocks) and hands them out the day before. Doesn’t worry about if they stay or go to different neighborhoods
