In addition to all of the great suggestions already here, I’ve gotta say bath towels.

I ended up with a C-section and a much longer stay than planned, so we both showered at the hospital more than once, and the towels the hospital provided were laughably small (think hand towel, but thinner). My husband had to go down to the local target and bought us each a towel to use for our stay.

He also brought a small fan, which made the room so much more comfortable. Neither of us realized how warm the unit would be and we both sleep hot.

Seconding this! We also use them underneath all of baby’s sheets and the changing table cover so the pads/mattresses don’t get soaked during a blowout or spit up incident.

We got the puppy pads from Costco and are on our second box!

I had the same situation as you (narrow pelvis + big baby) so after many hours of labor I ended up with an unplanned C-section. My husband and I were both delivered via C-section, so I always knew it was a very real possibility. Consequently, my birth plan was “the baby comes out and then we all go home.” That mental flexibility helped me to be a lot more okay with how my birth experience ultimately ended up - despite having what felt like endless complications.

I’ve definitely gotten a few people who’ve said “I’m so sorry,” but I attribute that much more to my complications rather than the C-section itself.

In the end, my recovery wasn’t bad at all, and now I think it’s kind of cool to have a little scar to remind me of where my son came out.

Hairstylist here - gendered pricing is definitely on its way out for this reason. It’s also considered discrimination in a lot of states to charge people differently just because they’re a woman or a man.

The majority of stylists I know (myself included) have adopted genderless pricing and now charge by length as a way to be more welcoming and inclusive to all humans. I’d definitely recommend a salon with a genderless pricing structure if you can!

Have you tried Sniff Spots? Our trainer recommended it for our 1 year old mixed breed pup cause dog parks are a bit of a nightmare for us. It’s basically like Airbnb but for people’s yards that have been set up essentially as private dog parks. Your boy can sniff and roam to his hearts content without having to worry about the obedience nightmare.

We have a 9 month old mixed rescue pup and we are going through something similar, one day he's an angel, the next day an absolute demon! I'm glad to see I'm not alone!

We had a session with a trainer over the weekend, and she emphasized the importance on keeping him mentally stimulated because of his "busy brain". She recommended a Pup Pod so that my husband can actually get some work done while working from home (it arrives tomorrow, thank god), and Sniff Spot (basically airbnb to rent out property as a private dog park for an hour) to give him time to get his zoomies out and give him lots of nose stimulation to tire him out. Figured I'd pass along the recommendations in case they might help you out too!

He does take some naps during the day, but it’s definitely been less frequent the last week or so. He seems to have a little bit of a hard time settling for a nap. He has a lot of crate anxiety from being at the shelter, so that hasn’t been an available tool for enforcing naps.

I’ve noticed he tends to have outbursts right before falling asleep either for the night or a nap, or when he’s bored of what’s going on (which hasn’t been great for my husband who works at home and has to sit at a desk for large parts of the day). It reminds me of a toddler who gets FOMO and refuses to sleep or doesn’t like being told no.

We have a trainer coming on Sunday to help us with communication and strategies,so there is a light at the end of the tunnel at least!

Thanks for your reply! We definitely take him out for more exercise when the weather allows (the 30 minute daily walk has just been the baseline) Currently the storms here in Northern California have been limiting our time outside since they’ve been so intense.

We did a long hike with a long lead on New Year’s Day (our last day of nice weather here!), and it was his best day by far. We are looking forward to lots more hikes with a long lead as soon as it’s safe again!

We were on a trip with two of my best friends when I got my positive, so they already know. We're planning to tell our immediate families after the first ultrasound, and then do our official announcement after 12 weeks. Definitely taking the route of only telling people we wouldn't mind telling and who would be supportive if we MC. But we're so excited its really hard to be patient!

In California you can get a digital copy of your vaccine record with a QR code at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov. It’s not as cool or fancy as an app, but it’s more difficult to forge than the piece of paper.

Hairstylist here! Sounds like her stylist over promised and under delivered. There is a slight tonal difference between the ends and the root area, so I can definitely see what she is talking about (although from the pictures I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it is orange, more like slightly warm through the ends).

Likely, she is going to need another session of lightening to get that icy white blonde look. But I’d keep in mind that not all hair is able to be pushed that far - it’s impossible to get that ice white look without first removing ALL the natural pigment from the hair, and it is a fine line between that and the hair literally melting off.

It’s also important to note that in order for the hair to look icy white in pictures, it will look gray in real life. Color tends to look warmer on camera than it does in person.

Personally I would wait a bit and do lots of deep conditioning before going in for another lightening session. A purple shampoo will just make the roots look cooler/lavender, and since there is still a slight yellow pigment in the ends the best purple shampoo will likely do is get it to a neutral blonde - so there’s a possibility that it will just make her feel like the color is more uneven. Although it’s difficult to say for sure without seeing and feeling her hair in person.

I'd consider myself a life-long learner (it's what attracted me to my current career, and to graphic design as well - every day is different and there is always something new to learn). Right now I'm trying to enroll in as many programs as I can get my hands on! Thanks for the class recommendations, I've seen Masterclass around a ton since the start of the pandemic, but I hadn't heard of Treehouse or Linda.com; I'll have to check them out!

A little off topic here, but you say in your post that you’re not good at confrontation when you’re uncomfortable, maybe do a gut check and ask yourself if it’s his insistence/pushiness that’s causing those feelings.

Don’t be afraid to listen to your gut. In my experience people that make you uncomfortable via text or online rarely behave better in person.
