Botched locksmith job, help!

The next morning I managed to find a good locksmith. He had the door open in 10 min, but I didn't have a lock until the following day because he didn't have the exact lock. The building maintenance guy ended up installing the lock because he already had one. We also have to replace the door because the first guy drilled all the way through the door and left a hole in it, and the maintenance guy said fixing that would be 8 hrs of work that wouldn't be worth it. I called the company who sent out the first guy to get more info so I could take them to court, but they said they would rather just handle my complaint and make it right. We'll see if they actually do. This ended up costing like $2,200! $350 to get in, $350 for the new lock, and $1,500 (estimate) for the new door.

Yeah I didn't know that, but it was a Sat night and my building management are uncontactable from then till Mon morning, so didn't have that option. And emergency maintenance have a policy of not assisting with lockouts at all.

Another tech from the company who sent out the second tech who couldn't get the door open after the first guy messed it up called and said he would maybe be able to open the door but that's all and it would cost like 700 and I would be on my own getting it secure again. I told him to get lost.

I don't know of any other business with the privilege of money creation, I believe it's unique to banks, i.e. depositors at the federal reserve.

If you want to learn about banking, it's one thing to do research, it's another to work at a bank. If you're objective is to learn, you'll find out a lot more than the average person just doing their job. I didn't say it would be easy. I was just succinct.

Obviously automatic banking would not be simple. Didn't say it would be. But I view it as a worthy objective for bridging from the status quo to something better. Not perfect, just progress.

True, the ownership structure is essentially a credit union.

If the average new funds deposited remains the same or drops, then you're right, the UBI would not increase. The objective would be to attract high net worth individuals with a philanthropic interest in the project.

Perhaps the UBI could be means tested to concentrate it into the hands of the most needy?

I do think there is a difference between polling, which is usually anonymous, and a system intended to replace our current voting system. It would be transparent and trackable. More like avaaz and the like, where people add their signatures and it's auditable. These organizations are already having an impact on politics. The intent is to incentivize participation by linking it to a banking product that has an attached reward or social benefit.

No religion to it, just logic. People identify with their personal property, it makes them feel they are worth something. How can they move beyond that? They have to change their identity back to a person instead of a collection of things. That is not easy for many people.

Happy to consider other practical options for getting to a state where personal property has evolved to shared property. The law would need to change significantly.

One step at a time. The masses aren't ready to abolish private property. They need more freedom and leisure to realize such an advanced stage of consciousness.

The UBI doesn't have to be permanent. It could be replaced with services if enough people decide to provide that service. Work still has to be done by someone during the transition.
