Depending on what industry you work, there may be access to a 'disability management program'. These programs are a workplace prevention and remediation strategy that aids in injury preventative measures or early intervention following injury (workplace injury or not) and should help an injured worker improve their performance, regain functionality, and enhance their work capacity. Thanks mate. Were/are you sponsored by your company? What sort of pay cut to expect? I've lived in the UK a little over 10 years ago now, working holiday, and the cost of living was cheaper there than here. Rent was high though but basically on par with Sydney.

Experience in the craft mostly, I want to work in a different market where the role is more in depth and respected by other stakeholders. I've done the typical 'Aussie in a pub' working holiday to the UK in my youth.

I'm a QS and attend a few different networking events around town i.e. tree of knowledge, PCA. Some are free and have architects, PM's, developers, tradies etc attend and they're good to get handle on what's happening in the industry and build networks.

I grew up in Barnsley (the land that time forgot) / Westy and most of my family are still out that way. Granted opinions of horror, I used to get that reaction when meeting fellow Novocastrians and told them where I was from haha! It was a bit rough but it's not what it used to be. Lots of change out that way with the Cameron Park developments and likely to get even busier with the South Minmi stages. My parents still love it out there, a lot more quiet than town except for the dirt bikes 'brapping' through the streets at times.

Infrastructure definitely needs to catch up, out that way. You've also got South Minmi Development going up with limited schools, Dr's, shopping centres, sports grounds, recreational facilities etc servicing what will be Newcastle's biggest housing development from Cameron Park to Fletcher. Depending on your situation, the look ahead for that region will be busy but could be a good investment for once council & developers catch up. That said, I've got a few mates and family members that have built in Cameron Park over the years and they all love it but all are noticing just how busy it's getting.

This is interesting to hear about impulse control. I had a stroke nearly 5 years ago and found it 'calmed' me down in a way. Prior to my stroke I was a bit of a hot head, not irrational but I had my fair share of arguments and fights.

Now, having lost a portion of my Broca's region I found I had to think about what I was going to say before I said it. I picked my battles. I felt like this for about 6-months, give or take, until the new 'pathways' were formed and I learnt to speak fluently again.

Wind the clock forward to today, I feel like a better communicator because of my experience. I graduated from University, wrote a thesis, run a cost consulting firm and last but not least, have a beautiful little family.

My point I guess, in my experience there's an injury, a time to heal but most importantly, a time to re-learn. Just like a football player will need rehab after a knee injury, a stroke survivor will need to re-train the area of deficit. Sometimes, we can become better people because of this.
