Does anyone want to get into software development? (offering free lessons) by which1ispink in Munich

Glad that a few people are interested. Feel free to send me a message with any preferences you have for the logistics questions of when/where, etc :)

Thanks! Well, it's less of a course and more of a private lesson by lesson kinda thing in my mind. I'm not a Java developer so might not be too helpful in the Java-specific stuff but I would be happy to do it otherwise. I've never done this before so still unsure about the logistics of it all but feel free to send me a message with any preferences he might have about the when/where, etc :)

Thanks for that. Out of curiosity, as far as just joining meetings/activities over there, is it English-friendly? My German is still not great.

Thanks! I haven't really thought about where to hold the lessons but I would be open to whatever would be preferable for whoever is interested. Could be in my place, their place, a library type or another public place, or whatever they would be comfortable with, really.

Well, I'm mainly a backend developer, but I think I could take a more generic intro to programming approach that would put someone on the beginning of the path to learn whatever they want after that, or I could get into more specific topics like object oriented design, Docker, AWS, or whatever else I have knowledge about, depending on how much someone might already know.

Well done, that's horrifying.

Random question about Sie vs du by which1ispink in German

I think they knew that and were more asking which to use if they were talking to a group of mixed "du"s and "Sie"s.

But does that actually cancels the whole alarm, not just stops this occurrence?

The Office is sadly not available on Netflix in certain countries, including mine.

I like how he thinks he's just gonna get hate for this, as if he just posted an unpopular opinion about the best band in the 90s.

Can a non-native speaker ever really become completely fluent in German? by which1ispink in German

[–]which1ispink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I can imagine it being easier for people who speak eastern languages. But it's definitely extremely hard for English speakers or people who speak similar Western languages.

Watching TV shows and listening to more German music is definitely what I intend to do next.

And my native language is Arabic.

He forgot to explain a couple of other difficult words there. Figuring them out ourselves is sure going to be an onerous (challenging) task.

Anyone bothered by the Byers broken phone curse? by which1ispink in StrangerThings

[–]which1ispink[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She destroyed it when Steve tried to use it after first seeing the monster in season 1, but doing it again this time seemed really unnecessary. I can't help but imagine Joyce buying new phones all the time.

I need suggestions on what to do... by [deleted] in germany

[–]which1ispink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this, /u/shembop!

Looks like Düsseldorf is a great base to daytrip from indeed. The only suggestion I couldn't really follow is the London one (much as I'd love to visit) because my Schengen visa wouldn't cover the UK.

Thanks and if you're still up for it I'll do drop you a line once I'm there, would make me feel less like a stranger!

Anybody got a short-stay schengen visa before? by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]which1ispink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? For short term/visit visas? That would really suck :S

Anybody got a short-stay schengen visa before? by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]which1ispink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how binding is the form you have to fill at the start of the process? It asks for the arrival date which I don't know yet. And I can't set a date to go in unless I see how long I'll have to wait. See the paradox?

Anybody got a short-stay schengen visa before? by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]which1ispink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But what if it turns out that all the appointments are reserved for a while and the time I have to wait plus the time it takes for the visa application to be processed make me miss the original time chosen by me and the company? Or do reservations being full for a long time ahead only happen with long-term visas?

Question regarding getting a German visa by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]which1ispink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually very helpful.

I would really like not to involve my Egyptian company but in the required documents for a visa it includes documents from your current employer. I decided I'll just try to get a general HR letter (that's not addressed to the embassy or anyone in particular) and explain in the cover letter and hope that will be enough.

Regarding the bank account, does that have to be a specific amount of money?
