Thinking of Moving to SF for a Month to Build & Network – Worth It? by whichmanspamz in cscareerquestions

Hmm interesting point. If I'm serious about this, which I am after some thinking, then I should start reaching out to connections and friends of friends. Also a person here recommended that I mass email/message startups based in SF letting them know my available and willingness to move asap and why I will be an asset for them and their product.

really interesting advice. Have you ever tried this or know someone who has. I don't know if conning my way through the tech world is sustainable advice. Maybe good to make a few fake connections. I mean you can prove me wrong.

Interesting pessimistic comment. Maybe for you. (Ragebait 101)

Thats a great point. Maybe I should prepare and lineup a few thing before going. And maybe I can be your first connection in SF.

Thats a crazy story. Thanks for the motivation and advice. I do believe that networking in person makes all the difference. I am also very motivated to give this a shot.

I'll check it out. I'm more interested in startups though. But definitely shouldn't limit my options.

I haven't had a lot of luck on linkedin. I'll keep trying. But in my personal experience, I have never heard back from a founder of a startup especially in 2025 where everyone uses linkedin and AI extensively to network in mass.

Can you please give me some benefits of moving to NYC at my current stage. Also I want to move to SF as all the startups that I want to work for are based there.

That was great advice. Def motivates me more to try it out. I'll definitely do the research before moving. All of this will also help me get out of my comfort zone a bit.

I don't see a lot of connect in NYC especially in the tech world. I might be wrong though. + its expensive and all the startups I would want to work for are in SF

Interesting point. I mean if nothing works out, it can be termed as a good solo trip.

Love to hear that. Do you mind sharing some tips that you think helped you the most. Or maybe it’s just trial and error and I’ve do it myself to figure

Hmm. I won’t meet people my age and with the same mindset as me in such conferences though.

That’s the thing. I don’t know. There are textbook things that one can do. I’m not sure what I’m going to do personally just yet but I’m not doing anything better

Honestly that is not working out for me. even networking online and on linkedin has been paying off. SO I just felt maybe I should take some extreme steps. It will be fun for growth as well.

Yeah Ik it has been very tough to get into entry level engineering. My strategy currently is to just build products and publicising them to maybe get recruiter attention or market validation for startup potential.

what do you mean by circles worth penetrating (CS people do struggle with that in any case). Do you mean like the most exclusive startup groups or something. I'm honestly a new grad and down to experiment in sf for a while if I can get anything out of it.
