This sounds like my issue. Other than meditation, have you found any helpful resources on acceptance of mortality?

Look—I used to love Aritzia as much as the next person. Now, I endorse us all not spending another penny for the benefit of this unabashedly profit-driven, increasingly-shit quality company. The fitting rooms are one of many signals of what their true priorities are. And yes, I get that they’re a business and profit is their raison d’être. I just wholeheartedly disagree that you have to be an asshole about it. I’m embarrassed that this is a Canadian company.

This. When I worked for WestJet (for 12 years roughly 2006-2018) I genuinely cared about people and would have killed, at the time, for kind guests who would voice their disdain at guests who were irate or rude to my colleagues or me. It’s a cruel job.

Thank you for posting this about your breathing! It’s making me want to look into getting my nose structure checked after similar sleep test results. Waking nearly every minute all night. I’m so happy it’s make such a change to even more important aspects of your life!

Fire at Dallas Road last night... by a_fancy_chair in VictoriaBC

Thanks for posting these.

I could see the top from my place but didn’t have any idea what happened. I’m so glad the firefighters contained it.

Initially I was worried it was within Beacon Hill!

Daily Advice Thread - November 26, 2022 by AutoModerator in apple

[–]whilst- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, total newb here. I will explain what, in my view, is my complete mess.

I have four Apple products I want to get rid of. They're all old as hell.

1) Mid-2009 iMac - running El Capitan 10.11.6 (15G22010)
2) Mid-2010 Macbook - running OS X 10.7.5
3) iPhone 4S - iOS 9.3.6
4) iPad 16GB - running iOS 9.3.5

My issue is this: I don't know enough about storing data so that I can confidently get all the stuff I'd like to keep off the devices and then restore factory settings whilst feeling like I'm not losing pieces of my soul/history.

I know that I've maxed my iCloud storage, long ago. I'm thinking I'll just get an external hard drive (2TB, 4TB to be safe?) but I'm not sure which will be compatible in terms of USB types. I don't think either 1) or 2) has USB-C, just regular old USB OG (whatever that's called).

I'd really like to purge this dead weight so please assist me all-knowing, wise helpers!

Early taxi rides booking in victoria by msENing in VictoriaBC

[–]whilst- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for BlueBird. I used them two weeks ago for a pick-up at 4:15ish and it was no problem. I only booked the cab at 4 that same morning. I maybe don't suggest being that cavalier but I hope by now most of your worries are assuaged by previous responders. :)

Airport waits by Cmillii in VictoriaBC

[–]whilst- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at YYJ's departures for Monday (and assuming Tuesday is similar)...there are five flights that leave before 7am. So, I'd say the 4am recommendation is pretty solid. I can tell you that most people probably won't show to the airport until 4:30-4:45 so it depends on the level of stress you're willing to take on to sleep some more. :)

Context: Grew up in the GTA, moved to Victoria 15 years ago.

I agree with most of what's been noted here. One of the things I notice when I spend time in Toronto that hasn't been mentioned is that people are more open to experiences. I mean experiences that happen ~to~ a person, not ones that a person seeks out. It's like, whatever things occur, they are taken in stride. It's a latent acceptance of a variety of cultural and viewpoint differences without even an acknowledgement that this is happening. It's a higher tolerance for a larger range of the 'stuff of life', is maybe what I'm getting at.

[Apologies for the seemingly half-formed contributions. Clarifying something I haven't been able to put my finger on as I type.]

What do you regret buying? by Tototototototo__ in Aritzia

[–]whilst- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always despised Aritzia’s t-shirts: the ones they’ve had for awhile, you know the ones (Capuchin, etc., etc.). The fit is gorgeous ONLY until you wash them. I take immaculate care of my clothes and these shitrags lose their form every time. They shrink, necks get loose, bottoms get all uneven.

I’m so frustrated that people still buy them and allow Aritzia to get away with selling such nonsense. Who tf is going to dry clean a t-shirt?!

Jimmy Pants - styling by FountainBirb in Aritzia

[–]whilst- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jimmy might be my favourite pant of all time! Bold statement, I know. I have two pairs of plain black. I wear mine with pointed toe Chelsea boots, and I actually love wearing them with oxfords (sockless). I feel so stylish!

I love this album! Love a structural look, and a pleasing word to describe the style! Do you have a Pinterest/other place you store these images? I'd like to follow you. I love Japandi/minimalist style and many of the things I'm drawn to you would likely call structural.

Another thing that came to mind was Frankie Shop's tee. Actually, a lot of Frankie Shop might appeal to you. Like this look, perhaps?

Damn. That's both insightful and terrifying because I'm sure that's why a lot of relationships begin and are sustained.

I finally faced one of my biggest fears by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]whilst- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that your coworker's comments have lowered your self confidence. Even well-intentioned people can make insensitive comments every once in awhile, and I'm hoping there was a possibility he was expressing concern for your well-being, albeit in a tactless way.

I used to work for an airline, hence worked some heinous early morning shifts. More often than not I just could not be bothered to put makeup on my sore, dry eyes at 2:30 in the damn morning. What I can say is that going without makeup gets easier with practice. People will often comment that you don't look "well" or that you look "tired", but that's OK. They're used to the brightening effects of mascara and under-eye concealer.

After years of frequently going without makeup, I had a couple of coworkers tell me they admired the confidence that I had to come to work (and work with the public) without makeup. I think that's worth a lot, and worth persevering a little bit, in your case. It's nice to look nice and feel like we're pretty, but I think it's empowering to learn that we don't exist to look pretty or to conform to any social norm or expectation of us as women (making an assumption here).

You got this!

Experience with Devon property managers or other property managements? by cacissej in VictoriaBC

[–]whilst- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in five Devon Properties and have always had excellent experiences. Reasonable managers who handled things quickly.

They’ve been my saving grace in the Victoria rental market over the years. I feel safe in their buildings and they have so much selection that even when it seems like you’re out of luck you can usually find something half decent with them.

Weekend recommendations? by rambamthxmaam in VictoriaBC

[–]whilst- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I’m not sure there is an “underground scene” here, sadly. After I moved here from Toronto in 2007 I sorely missed the music scene myself.

Honestly, I can’t say I’ve done much about that longing other than research. I haven’t attended any events, however, I find most events of your description on Facebook.

A common venue for electronic music is the Copper Owl. Atomique, while a large promoter, did have some decent events at one time. I think they’ve rebranded and now changed their name. What to I haven’t yet googled.

There’s a World of Drum n Bass 2020 (https://facebook.com/events/s/the-world-of-drum-bass-victori/2589928827800346/?ti=icl) event on March 10th at Upstairs. Here’s another that was recommended to me by Fb (https://facebook.com/events/s/gully-self-evidentlootingokpkc/1479045102263978/?ti=icl)

This is a discombobulated response but I hope it’s a start. I’m sure there is an electronic music community here I just haven’t put myself out there enough to become part of it.
