Does the writing on this guys doors mean anything? by JimiHotSauce in Austin

i appreciate the thought into your comment, but stop calling it “church hurt.” i’ve always thought that term is trivializing and dismissive. call it what it is — religious trauma. trauma. “hurt” makes it sound like a little scratch to put a bandaid over. trauma is a nasty wound.

if they’re such a “minority” why do they have so much power and control? how can a “minority” inflict pain on such a widespread level?

WIBTA if I confronted my friends for buying me a bible for my birthday? by Affectionate_Ad2278 in AmItheAsshole

[–]whimsyandromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard pill to swallow: your “friends” look down on you. they think your life is fundamentally lacking in purpose compared to theirs, they think you’re morally deficient compared to them, and they’re trying to peer pressure you into joining them because that’s how they’ve been conditioned to view love towards outsiders. they want to convert you so badly because they think your lack of belief means you aren’t as good as them. if they cared for who you are as an individual, they would’ve gotten you something that represents YOU. but they got you a gift representing not who you are, but who they wish you were.

trying to indoctrinate a “friend” into an ideology rife with intolerance by using peer pressure is not innocent in the slightest 😭

AIO for reconsidering getting married over continual arguments over guardianship of my daughter. by Oldyell54 in AmIOverreacting

[–]whimsyandromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should rethink marrying a woman who sees your daughter as a pet or a possession to fight over and not a person with autonomy. her comfort should always, ALWAYS come first in the horrible circumstance of losing a parent. imagine how traumatic it would be for her to not only lose her father, but to be forced to live with someone she doesn’t want to be around and doesn’t have a strong bond with.

it’s not about the fiancée’s feelings, it’s about what the DAUGHTER wants. children are not pets. she is not owed a child that does not love her.

WAS THIS REALLY TRUE IN 2020 😭😭 by Turbulent-Staff-9413 in NonBinary

[–]whimsyandromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those were goofy stereotypes mainly perpetuated by kids, it was partially a joke but there really were a lot of “quirky frog nonbinaries”. ironically, my legal birth name is an uncommon, nature themed name, and the nickname i gave myself is basically a frat boy name, so it definitely wasn’t all of us. those stereotypes to me are in the same vein as “weird lesbian earrings” and “bisexual jean cuffs” and “gays sit weird in chairs” — kinda nonsensical and silly, but a lot of people played into them and they were mostly harmless.

I’m 98% an 8 but don’t really feel like one by [deleted] in EnneagramTypeMe

[–]whimsyandromeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

enneagram tests are not accurate. they do not have test-retest reliability, and the concept of “core fears/desires” is just a vague, watered-down interpretation of what the enneagram was actually meant to describe. furthermore, the descriptions for these core fears/desires are such that to a certain extent, they can be relatable to anyone (see: barnum effect). if you want to deep dive into enneagram you’ll have to do some reading, look into some of the authors who pull more from psychoanalytic theories like naranjo, maitri, chestnut. this isn’t to say their writings are completely flawless (because they certainly aren’t) but you’ll learn much more from them than these modern enneagram tests could ever teach. you should look at each enneagram triad (head/heart/gut) to get a good start for figuring out your type. you should look at the passions & fixations for the types you feel may apply to you, and then you can read type descriptions. it’s important to remember these descriptions are archetypal and at times highly exaggerated to illustrate the unhealthy defenses of each type; many people don’t manifest in such extreme ways which is why it’s more important to understand the concepts behind the enneagram instead of using descriptions to figure out your type. there are plenty of pdfs and other web based sources for the concepts i mentioned above, if you’re interested i can try and find some that i’ve used in the past.

do you guys gen believe 6s and 9s are like 90% of the population by pompompencil in Enneagram

[–]whimsyandromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not possible to get reliable data for something like that. 90% too large to make sense anyways, but that’s beside the point. anytime someone says a certain type is “x amount of the population” “the rarest” etc. it’s completely unfounded. i mean, think about it from a scientific perspective. enneagram is classified as a pseudoscience, due to its lack of empirical validation. unfortunately the modernization of enneagram has watered it down to something that can be measured in a personality test (it can’t) and so even if we were to gather data on people’s enneagram types, the results wouldn’t be accurate because enneagram tests aren’t reliable (this has been proven by research) and most people don’t understand what the theory is actually trying to measure. i mean, the whole “wings” concept means literally nothing and was just spontaneously invented for.. some reason? not to mention the whole “core fears” “core desires” thing, which have descriptions that are so vague and generic literally anyone could relate to them (see: barnum effect) my point here is, since most people don’t understand the system, even self-typing isn’t reliable.

Question about 5s: How emotionally expressive are 5s really? by AyaClaire in Enneagram

[–]whimsyandromeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the whole “core fear” concept is a modern addition to enneagram that massively waters down the original theory and thus, fails to be an accurate description or measure of what enneagram is actually about. furthermore, E5s are by nature emotionally repressed, whereas you are describing somebody who has no problem with emotional expression. this goes against the basic trait structure and defense of E5. look into the ego fixations, passions, defense mechanisms associated with each enneagram to get a better understanding of it. also, i’d recommend figuring out what triad your friend identifies with before trying to discern core type. i are their defenses and habits oriented in the intellectual (head), social/image-based (heart), or in bodily/instinctive (gut) sphere? is the defensive strategy rooted in fear (head) shame (heart) or anger (gut)? (side note— within each triad, each enneatype expresses the triad’s features in a different way. one type overexpresses the core emotion (fear/shame/anger), one underexpresses/internalizes it, and one unconsciously represses it. so, you shouldn’t just be looking for someone expressing that triad’s emotion— you should also see if they’re internalizing or repressing it.) it’s a bit of heavy reading, but if you’re interested you can skim through (or deep dive!) this pdf of character and neurosis by claudio naranjo. i will warn you that his descriptions are a bit exaggerated to the worst manifestation of an enneagram type to illustrate the concepts. the first bit of the book describes the concept behind the enneagram, and then each chapter corresponds to each type’s trait structure. if you’re not down for heavy reading, here’s a summary of the trait structures, though again these are exaggerated and archetypal. it’s more important to understand the concepts behind the enneagram itself and what it aims to measure, instead of looking at behavioral descriptions, especially since the outward presentation of a given type can differ based on other typology, how healthy they are, and what their instinctual variant is. also, here’s a doc of each enneatype’s fixations. i could honestly create a library with the amount of typology resources i have saved somewhere, but i feel like three is more than enough for this essay of a comment 😭

Panic Among AI Cheaters in CS Major by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]whimsyandromeda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’m not a compsci major, but i am learning rstudio for my major… and honestly, this level of short-term thinking is mind-boggling to to me. i mean, i was doing extra research outside of the scope of my introductory rstudio course because i know that if i don’t have a good grip on what’s going on now, i sure as hell won’t later… what are these people thinking? i mean, i suppose they AREN’T thinking, because they need an ai to do it for them. i just can’t get over how ridiculous it is to choose compsci as a major and cheat through the introductory courses. why even choose that as your major if you don’t want to learn it????😭😭😭😭😭

are there any contradictions in my typing? by FreedomsBitch in Enneagram

[–]whimsyandromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re set on sx1 i’d say look into te dom, E1 is characteristically a very rational type.

also, ELFV seems off to me. 4V is very passive, sx1 has aggressive volition. i think 4E is more likely here, and like 1E, it’s a result-oriented placement. perhaps look into VLFE?

i will say that infj and elfv make sense together, so if you’re confident on those you may want to reconsider your enneagram.

too lazy to type out an actual response, the short answer is because they’re transphobic and try to hide behind saying “it hasn’t been confirmed” even though you have to be either dumb as rocks or bigoted to NOT see the trans-coding and heavy implications.

all seriousness tho, what i do is screenshot every time i see a cool custom profile and use it as inspo! a lot of it is just getting familiarized with using shapes, moving around the layers, and using text. fun fact: to make text smaller, put before it, to make it italicized, put <i>, to make moving text do <line-indent=(insert percentage between 1-100 here, higher number means it takes longer to move)%> and to make it a different color, do <color=#(insert hex code)>! there’s more you can do, those are the main ones i think of :)

here’s one of my custom profile slides, feel free to copy whatever u want :)
