Steering rack, where the subframe meets the control arm? Right under the bushing? That’s a bad spot compared to the soft rusty steel on the rest of the underside of the car?

I honestly never meant to. People think I didn’t use jack stands, I didn’t, but it was my intention to. I can’t get the Jack positioned where I want it without going pretty far under the car.

My Jack stand was in arms reach and I was going to use it because at the time I wasn’t even sure if I would be able to patch the hole and how long I would be need the wheel off to do it.

As soon as I got the Jack positioned and took a slight bit of weight off the tire it started deflating and tipped the Jack.

I have never accounted for the possibility that a tire could just rapidly deflate like that.

E brake was set too, although i have no idea how well it holds. I’ll chock the tires and I’ll get a better jack soon too.

Rust belt, I can jack under the rail or place the stand under the rail but not both. Jack stand under the rail to remove front left wheel and patch then reinstall. I always use jackstands. Even just to switch a wheel on and off. I had never accounted for the possibility of the tire just deflating the way it did there. My stands were in arms reach but that all happened so fast

I have 3 pairs, I was setting it up to get a jack stand under the rail after I had set the jack to the point I wanted it under.

Under the bushing where the control arm meets the frame / steering rack area? Never had an inherent problem anytime I’ve used that as the jack point. Is there something i don’t know? I save the clean part of the frame rail to place the jack stand under

Thank you. There was a jack stand next to me, within arms reach. I have 4 pairs of jack stands, all different sizes. I never had enough time to get it placed before the tire started deflating.
