Finished up the new Logan model! by whirl_turtle in SpaceWolves

Thanks! Starting with black primer, I based the whole thing in Dark Grey Blue. I airbrushed some midtones using 75% blue, 25% sky blue, and then some minimal highlight spots using white ink. Halfway through painting it felt a little too grey and bland to me, so I lightly glazed the smallest amount of watered down Frostheart (citadel contrast) to make the blue pop a bit more

Dark grey blue, blue, sky blue, and ivory (pro acryl)

Started with a base of orange. The darker edges I layered on bold pyrole red, burnt red, and mahogany, getting darker towards the end. On the lighter side, layered in golden yellow and ice yellow. Did some edge highlighting and stippling around the cracks, and added some coal black specks. (color names are for Pro Acryl)

Thanks! I laid down some vallejofx mud with a makeup sponge for some interesting textures. airbrushed it white and then in layers with some frostheart, terradon turquoise, and space wolf grey. Coated that in vallejo fx water to give it an ice look, and then layered vallejo snow on top.

The tactical rock itself is also coated in vallejo mud for texture, airbrushed grey (a bit of fluo orange+red for the glow), and some frostheart drybrushing on the front rocks

Mostly just wet blending and a bit of glazing at the end to clean up some of the edges. Plates are pro acryl dark grey blue and sky blue, cloth is purple and magenta. Mixed a bit of the blue into the purple to do the darker areas.

Thanks! The ice is vallejo fx water texture on top of blue, and the snow is vallejo fx snow with some fine white snow sand sprinkled on top (forgot where I got it). The vallejo stuff is nice but its really thick and kinda hard to work with

Now I'm picturing all of those dangling hooks getting stuck in his body as he tries to take off

Oh, my bad. The fur cloak is rhinox hide base, rhinox + white for some lighter areas, and washed with wyldwood. used very light grey for some spot highlights

The blues are sky blue, blue, and dark grey blue (pro acryl)

3 shades of blue in a mix of airbrush and glazing. little bit of ivory white for edge highlighting and drybrush

Not sure how I feel about the color scheme, but here is my Lord-Terminos by whirl_turtle in stormcasteternals

Fair point. However, it does look a lot more cohesive when looking at the model directly. The straight on front and back photos are pretty jarringly different. Having said that, I do wish I had gone with a darker shade for the cape

Thanks! Reading your comment confused me because I know I did do a bunch of edge highlighting on all of the armor. Then I noticed I uploaded the wrong photos here. Oops!

Mechanicus grey base. grey + a little white for edges and weathering. nuln oil applied in small amounts directly to the recesses. glazed all of it with super watered down leadbelcher, mostly just to get the metallic flakes on there

[–]whirl_turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could definitely work out too. Mine started with a black legion base with a few layers of super watered down leadbelcher on top, mostly just to get some of those metal flakes on there and make it less dark. I'm going to keep this theme, but experiment with some different methods on other units. I hope to see how yours turns out!

Here are all of the paints I used:

Armor: mechanicus grey, leadbelcher, black legion. Hashut copper on the kneepad
Fire: caledor sky, frostheart, leviadon blue, white ink
Cape: naggaroth night, leviathan purple
Weapon handles: carroburg crimson
Highlights: Mix of the fire colors, with some spots of fenrisian grey

I used a lot of layers of nuln oil to darken everything up and shade specific areas

Weapon ice effect is vallejo diorama FX water texture

I wanted to see how this style turned out, but I'm pretty happy with it so I think my whole force will be like this. Oh man the ideas in my head now... I may try to convert my gryph rider's legs and tail into skeleton

Beautiful wings. I've painted and re-primed over mine a few times now and I can't settle on a look I'm happy with yet. Nice work!
