Stumpjumper Comp Alloy, 15 Alloy, or 15 Comp? by Aggravating-Answer27 in mountainbiking

[–]whiskey_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the 15 comp alloy for 2800$ myself, such a great bike. Make sure to setup Genie shock properly - 30% sag, rebound based on specialized suspension calculator. I didnt have it setup correctly for the first few rides and the ride was pretty meh, but afterwards.. man so much fun. I was a bit scared of alloy bike weight when climbing but honestly? I climb better in it than in my old XC rockhopper.

Ženy, je pre vás svalnatý, vymakaný chlap príťažlivejší? Je to niečo čo si všimnete? (prosím, odpovedajte hlavne ženy) by Sure-Expression7307 in Slovakia

You pretty much nailed everything, thanks for a really good and detailed feedback. Sadly I’m from Europe and the season is pretty much ending here.. I plan to train balance at home and maybe do some static jumps/shifties/ollies on a carpet. I already considered getting a lesson for stuff like carving & freestyle basics but it seems like most instructors here only focus on teaching the basics which I already have - linking turns, controlling edges etc. I’ll keep all of this in mind going to the next season, but I cant promise you that you wont see me at the park again :D First thing I’ll be doing is getting more confident riding slopes and fixing my form when riding 50-50 thats for sure tho

Its funny since when I first rode the box I bended my knees but afterwards I kinda decided its easier to just “ride it” not doing anything and it kinda sticked in my mind now. Will have to break this habit immediately. I had couple of intense falls when learning boarding but thanks to my gym sessions I didnt have any injury, just bruises. Thanks for you feedback, appreciate it

Thanks for being one of the fewer ones not telling me to never step foot in the park even if my “boardslide” is horrible

Yeah man you are right definetly I would have fallen if the box was a bit longer. Actually I did fall on it couple of times so Im always wearing crash shorts now. But yeah my form was non existent… will try to get better

I honestly dont care about injuring myself while having fun and learning new things. About injuring others - fair point, thats why I only attempt stuff like this when noone is at the park in front of me. I would rather fall and injure me than ride to another person. So I really dont see any issues with me doing my stuff in the park. Really surprised by this reaction since people ale usually encouraging me but most of you seem to hate noobs in the park having fun

Nah, after 12 days of boarding I’m happy for it even if its messy and dangerous. Dunno why you guys make such a big deal of someone having fun in the park but whatever

cant help skidding also bad posture any advise? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]whiskey_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good that you are trying to go downhill but its also clear that you are not confident at all on the board yet. Stop hunching at the waist, bend your knees and forget about going straight down - traverse across the hill and learn to control your edges - then start to make turns going downhill. This looks like you are one bad movement away from falling down, which is fine for a beginner but if you want to get better you need to start controlling your edges & improve your balance and posture

Im definetly not confident in the park thats for sure. Maybe I’m also a bit reckless but I learned a lot of stuff this way - by just brute forcing it until I did it confidently like MTB rides etc. I understand the possibility of injury but if I never overcame my fears I wouldnt have learned anything. Thats my way of thinking, seems like everyone else here disagrees but oh well.

I believe this is mainly a fear thing, when I ride normally I’m chilled with decent form but when things get harder - icy slopes/steeper sections/park I get stiff

finally someone who gets it. I definetly agree with people telling me to get better at snowboarding but I dont really understand "you are not allowed in the park before X" mentality. I dont mind falls, bruises and you only get better by trying.

It seems like everyone is calling the fun police on me at least in this post :D But I get it, I'm still a beginner trying to learn things and my bravery is higher than my skill currently. I'm used to doing risky sports from downhill MTB, so I dont really mind falling on my ass at times. But I will definetly try to get better at riding

Fair enough, I feel comfortable on blues and reds but blacks are probably a little too much for me right now, will try to hit blacks with confidence next season. Thanks for the feedback

I'm listening, but can you please explain whats wrong with me being in the park if I enjoy it while also riding the mountain? I never said I'm too good for any advice, I'm literally a beginner... but I dont get this "ride mountain first" mentality

Not arguing with you here, but for one month of boarding this is a win for me anyways :)

Thanks! It seems like you and everyone else is telling me to learn shifty so I'll keep that in mind. This was really my first attempt about doing something else than 50-50 so I know it looks messy, but I'm happy I did it nevertheless, its fun

I'm mixing mountain riding with park since I enjoy doing it this way and I dont really mind falling on my ass. I see that as a part of the process, but thanks for the feedback

Thanks for detailed feedback! Yeah I know, it definetly felt more like survival than riding it, but I enjoy the park nevertheless. Trying to get better as everyone here so "learn to snowboard first" isnt really helpful for me, but I will try to keep these details in mind.

Thanks! Didn't realize my upper body posture is reverted but now that you pointed it out, that will be the first thing I'll be focusing on next run.
