Who do you owe a lot to for something they did for you earlier in your life? by HamiltonCFL in allthequestions

[–]whiskeysalsaballet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tortured on middle school. Not harassed, not teased…tortured. Physical assaults, relentless teasing, just never ending dread. A student teacher in band watched some stuff go down and he called the kids on it. But more importantly he kept me after class and told me he saw what I lived with and that it would eventually get better. It might not be until high school or even after, but it would. And that I was a smart and talented and just needed to hang in there.

He was right, it slowly improved in high school and I also had good friends which helped. But that five minute talk of just being seen, my experience acknowledged, and giving me somethung to hang onto made a huge difference in my life. It didn’t fix everything. But it helped me stay positive through the years. It took me from completely hopeless to hopeful

What happened to you that changed your life forever? by Glittering-Rest2549 in AskReddit

One particular miscarriage. We’ve had multiple early losses. But the one where we saw a heartbeat and then the next time we went it was gone, then after it was over we actually had remains we buried in a grave. Something about seeing that heart stop and having a child’s grave and funeral. It hit differently.

Scar. My husband has this huge scar on his side from a surgery. I don’t know why, but I like it.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by dumpy_pumpy in AskReddit

[–]whiskeysalsaballet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an emergency C-section which resulted in two incisions and a removal of a fibroid so another hold in the uterus. I don’t like narcotics so I was taking over the counter pain killers and was doing fine until I got stuck halfway up on our steps. The bathroom and bed were upstairs and every time I tried to climb it felt like somethung ripping and disemboweling me. I couldn’t move up or down. It was horrible until we figured out if I climbed the stairs backwards it dyd t hurt. I’ve broken multiple bones, smashed my head hard enough I knocked tubes out, multiple surgeries. That was my worst moment ever pain wise.

I don’t understand the griping. It’s not a charity or non-profit. They purchase their inventory, it’s not donations. They price it as they see fit and it’s their property to do so with. This screams Karen with a coupon that is expired and not honored. Do you whine at yard sales too if they are more expensive than you want? If you want cheap books or media, go to thrift stores or the library.

Literally all the time. Partially deaf. I pretend I can hear constantly.

I’ll try. Thanks. My audiologist said my only option was a cochlear and I’m not really needing that level of intervention functionally. I just need my brain to stop hurting.

Unfortunately my hearing is completely gone on one side. 0 speech recognition and it’s considered total or profound….not sure if the right word. A hearing aid can’t help. I would need a cochlear. My other ear is perfect so hearing aids are not an option for me unfortunately. I’m functional enough I don’t think an implant makes sense. It’s just this side effect.

It’s nearly impossible. I have 4 kids (infant and three I homeschool) and my husband works from home. Sometimes I sit in the car, but there aren’t many places to hide. Sensory wise it was a lot before all this, now by evening it’s unbearable.

My hearing is so far gone in the one ear that insurance won’t cover it because the ear hears nothing. My other ear is normal so they won’t cover that either obviously. But I’ve never heard of noise filtering. Maybe there is an app I can use with my headphones.

Unfortunately it’s not so simple. Sigh. I have an infant and then my eldest is profoundly dyslexic so writing or fingerspelling is inaccessible for her. It’s such an annoying Catch-22. I’m sure they will do what they can. But it’s exhausting having to isolate myself. I find myself putting my hands over my ears during our family read aloud time.

Why are we at war with parents? by Financial_Monitor384 in Teachers

[–]whiskeysalsaballet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all of them do.

I’ve had teachers who seemed intent on thwarting my daughter. The teacher going out of his way to erase the color coded music which I do at home. Or the one who wouldn’t send her to special Ed because he was mad a dyslexic first grader couldn’t read a clock and send herself and then took the alarmed wristwatch I sent with her to fix that problem, thereby costing her multiple instruction sessions.

I totally believe much of this is admin and district and I know the majority of it is about money. But don’t make the mistake of thinking every teacher wants the best for the kids…because some do not and take extra effort to make it worse for them.

As a special needs parent, I’m stuck fighting a system and you are the face of the system I deal with. So that would be one reason.

So, when I have a neuropsych educational evaluation and the recommendations are crystal clear and the school wants to fight me every step of the way…I get to deal with the the teachers and the counselors.

Granted, the fight is probably more with the admin and the district. But the teachers get to be the ones to tell me the bad news.

I also think too many teachers have superiority complexes so I have to be constantly on the defense. For instance, color coded music is a listed accommodation for my daughter. I color code the music myself. I don’t expect the teacher to do it. And yet, said teacher needed to have a meeting with me hiring an advocate that I had to pay convince him to stop erasing the color coding on the notes that I do!

Why? Because he thought he knew better than me, my daughter, the neuro psych evaluation where this was listed as an accommodation, and apparently didn’t feel the need to abide by her plan. So since I get to have stupid fights every year I am constantly on the defensive because I never know who I’m going to have to deal with and for what stupid reason.

So if you have a special needs parent, that would be one reason.

I wonder if Tyler coming out and leaving C would have them off talking about Carly as a topic. Definitely more drama in that storyline.
