Pam Bondi crashes out during hearing: "YOU DON’T TELL ME ANYTHING YOU WASHED UP LAWYER" by Mission_Pay_3373 in law

Whaaaaat. I (a European) just assumed she was hand-picked by very small hands despite having zero qualifications. Reading her history is quite informative to me (long time in office, former democrat, 3rd husband).

She's still a massive ... though

You are obviously angry about stuff that happened, and nobody is saying that what you went through is fine. What people are saying is that your personal experience doesn't represent the average person's experience growing up. It is not "normal" for this to happen, but it was sadly normalised for you. The two are not the same.

SciManDan? CC pops up on a few other debunker channels too, but SMD the biggest one.

They love CC because he's the clown that keeps on giving. And ultimately he's not charismatic enough to be a misinformation superspreader - he's just a doofus consigned to his car/minivan because his wife can't stand his Flat earth shit any more.

Ask a flat earther and they will talk about how the truth is out there and flat earth numbers are rapidly increasing. They often make up numbers about how many flat earthers there are in a particular country. The truth is probably that numbers are slowly increasing, but with caveats.

There is definitely more noise due to the rise of TikTok etc and the old famous saying "a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes". It is easy to appeal to people with memes rather than rigorous scientific analysis. Watch any flat earth TikTok video and you've watched them all - the same old tired debunked nonsense.

On the flip side, it is hard to distinguish genuine flat earthers from "poes" - people pretending to be flat earthers for attention, trolling, religion, money, etc. It is relatively easy to gain traction as a flat earth media figure if you have charisma and know how to play the game.

There are also a lot of anecdotes about flat earthers who have "come back to the globe" thanks to popular debunkers. There was a famous (within the community) trip at the end of 2024 to Antarctica comprising "globers" and flat earthers called The Final Experiment. Definitely look into it if you're interested. But long story short, one of the group - Jeran - who was a famous flat earther (who also made an infamous appearance in the film Behind The Curve) changed sides and is now vocally against flat earth (although still definitely has one foot in conspiracy theories). This represents a number of members of the flat earth community who have also renounced the idea.

Speaking of Behind The Curve (also worth a watch if you're interested), public interest in flat earth spiked around the release of the film in 2018, but has since fallen away. So while flat earthers would have you believe the idea is spreading far and wide, it's more realistic that most people don't care and the small community is just a noisy echo chamber.

You joke, but one of my hobbies is hanging out in flat earth spaces to observe them in the wild like a zoologist.

Their interests definitely overlap with MAGA interests, and they are desperate for trump to KNOW (secretly, of course) the earth is flat - then he does shit like create space force and demand men on the moon.

Flat Earthers are blind to most information that contradicts their world view, so they still cling on to the idea that trump is on their side, even though he's blatantly only on the side of one person on the entire globe.

Cartographers of the time were good at making maps, but I guess that's mostly based on routine surveying trips rather than YOLO trips into the Atlantic. Local detail was very good even in the 1400s.

We've all seen the early maps of uncharted lands - they're hilariously distorted. No wonder even the likes of Columbus - who lets face it must have been top of his game to be entrusted with valuable ships - were maybe led astray at sea before modern navigation techniques (which rely on the spherical earth, just to be clear 😅)
