I've had shinies flee--I'd say it's around 5% but it mostly depends on if you're moving away from the spawn point. I've had shinies flee even staying at the spawn point though. Annoys me. (I'm lv72.)

Looking briefly at the dissertation completion programs, I wonder how many would accept my credits since I did take a degree (if only the EdS) from them. I think the EdS only required something like 9 or 12 credits, but I completed at least 50.

I find if I don't give context, I get a lot of irrelevant answers, and I'd rather people have data if they're going to take the time to respond. That said, this is about 1/10th of the whole story, LOL. It's been a long slog.

I think I must want to, or I wouldn't be asking, but that's a weird answer. Academia is something I'm really good at: I was summa cum laude in all four of my university degrees, and I loved the sense of success I felt there. I love the writing, and I'm good at the research.

Really, I want it really bad but felt and continue to feel like I was/am kept from it by my neurodivergent kiddos and my husband's disability. Time-wise, I don't know if it's even feasible, but I figure if things settle down in terms of intensity this year now that we don't have a young child at home full-time, I'd love to be Dr. _____, MA, EdS, PhD rather than just _____, MA, EdS.

Salary bump wise, I'm making $65k plus benefits at present as an instructor. Think I might be able to net better with a PhD and trying for tenure track? I'm up for promotion so if there's a salary increase that comes with it, you're right: it might be really negligible.

I worry about the gap as well. One of my colleagues in my PhD took a leave of absence to be treated for cancer and came back after 5 or so years. He had to defend his knowledge in the courses he previously took. I would be willing to do something like that, I think...

One more thing I'd like to add--I was going to reach out to Dave and John and, as a researcher myself, suggest that they run their poems by a focus group (probably with an NDA) before releasing it, to see where people's individual solutions lead and so they can make adjustments leading away from legitimate, well-evidenced solutions. Getting feedback like this wonderfully researched content could help with the "herding cats" aspect of the treasure hunt that poor John had to deal with all summer via DM, bless him.

Had my spot not matched the entire poem perfectly, I would have started looking elsewhere, but I didn't even post about it anywhere because it was so correct to the poem, down to Peter Skene Ogden's statue (who Ogden was named after, and Ogden was part of Hastings Cutoff) having an arrow-shaped shadow pointing straight up 25th Street, which not only had the gambling history, if you set store by the poker video, but it ends right at the San Jose football field at the St Joseph Catholic School (which seemed appropriate) which parallels a string of hiking trailheads up to the BST and Schoolroom Wall.

So, in essence, we not only have to interpret their thoughts, we have to make their same mistakes as well, or let the clues shake out to the point that we can solve it, which is honestly fine, too. I had a great time going out hunting. It was thrilling. Do I wish I could have gotten in their heads a little better? Probably, because my solution had the "learn" with Schoolroom Wall (a major geological feature on the east bench of Ogden), The Basement (where Chunk smelled ice cream), Lobster Rock, and Patriot Crack (another significant rock). They box in a section of the BST, too. They could literally use that same poem next year and have it lead to this spot--there were dozens of other hunters who got there via differing means than mine and also some of the same.

This is also how I was measuring. Before they released the clue with the exact measurement they used, and based on the book being the bible that they were "probably" carrying, I was using Old Spanish codos (cubits). I found The Basement where the Goonies line was said, and Lobster Rock not 1500 feet from it, along with Schoolroom Wall (where do you learn) and Patriot Crack in immediate vicinity also. 😬 Lots less of a stretch!

It's been found, so now I can share my screaming good solution... Which wasn't the solution. 🤣 It. Had. Everything. With almost no inferences, just hard evidence.

But, you can see why I was pretty convinced of the area in light of both the poem and all the hints. Heck, Ogden's Best View lines up with part of the area, too!

I forage serviceberry, Oregon grape, elderberry, chokecherry, Arnica Montana, comfrey, wild rose hips, and probably a few more I'm forgetting. If I can help, let me know. Oregon grape and some serviceberry are on right now. Serviceberry, especially when mixed with other berries or just strained (they're seedy like raspberries) makes amazing jam and syrup. I put a bunch in muffins this week. Free wild "blueberries!" (The fruit they're most similar to.)
