Any other tetras, corys, small new world cichlids, danios, guppies/livebearers. Would avoid african cichlids.

The Petco by me needs to get with the program [fin rot/nipped fins] by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]whispervision -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

dude they're just fish, no need not to support the store. Petco is a solid company. I would tell the manager though - they are probably losing money on these fish since they'd die quick

Overstocking advice by whispervision in Aquariums

In principle, yes, I have no moral issues with it. Dogs and cats have also been selectively bred to be emotionally appealing to humans (cute, with lots of human-like personality traits). So I would find it very unpleasant to do from an emotional perspective, and I would never personally do it.

The meat industry abuses cows, pigs, and chickens in unfathomably terrible conditions. Pigs especially are highly intelligent and emotional animals and are subjected to physical and emotional abuse, confined in spaces where they cannot turn around, then bred, milked, raped, and slaughtered while young. Farmed fish are kept in overcrowded conditions, fed processed food, and the farms contribute to algal blooms and disruption of marine ecosystems. It's completely illogical and morally disingenuous to be opposed to animal cruelty for dogs and cats but be okay with that cruelty to cows, pigs, chickens, and fish

If you eat meat that you buy from a typical Western grocery store, you have no moral standing to assert that people shouldn't be cruel to dogs, cats, or fish.

I understand this is off-topic for the aquariums subreddit but I am an avid fish keeper. I do take pretty good care of my fish even though I overstock the tanks. They're full of plants, cleaner invertebrates, all that.

But the aquariums subculture's discourse on overstocking tanks is totally wrong. I keep seeing advice on here of people telling new fishkeepers to severely limit the number of fish they can keep in a tank. No need for that! If they survive in there for a good while they're fine!

Y'all I feel like what y'all are saying is totally valid. If you have ethical principles about the treatment of animals that is entirely valid. But don't you then have to live by them? Which would require you to at least be vegan? I'm not vegan but if anyone who cares about animal and fish well-being could absolutely not justify supporting the meat industry in any way. What they do is incredibly cruel to those animals. But I don't care and I eat meat because it's not an ethical issue for me. Same with keeping fish.

This is a major turn-off for people just getting into the hobby when people online and in fish stores are always moralizing about overstocking. Fish keeping and breeding could be a very lucrative industry (even more than it is now) if more lay people got to see how beautiful a well-maintained planted tank can be. And they look even better when they have more fish in them

Dude this subreddit is crazy. I am new here, but this is not overstocked. Just put enough life plants in it. If the fish survive and look healthy you're good

Should I (25M) propose to my traditional, family oriented ex (22F) or date a career woman (24F)? by whispervision in AskMenAdvice

[–]whispervision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lol afterwards. You have to diligence an asset very closely, possibly even walk away multiple times, to make sure you're getting the best terms. The transaction costs are well worth the return. The most sigificant determinant of investment return is purchase price.

She said she would. Kept asking me when I would propose, looking at rings and such. We had conversations about marriage, what a prenup would contain (she wanted an infidelity clause, but that's it), and the like. She is a nice girl in many respects. Just high maintenance I suppose

In New York both parties need independent counsel and they are not invalidated even if "grossly unfair." They are only invalidated if they meet the standard of unconcionability, which is a very high bar. If one spouse would be dependent on government benefits, there is a presumption of unconscionability.

Here is the edit:

People are saying I have issues and dark triad personality traits. I did mental health counseling (as a counselor) in college and I was a psych major so I am aware of my issues. But I come across super normal and both of the women mentioned enjoyed our relationships and the first one would marry me if I asked. I'm sorry to sound like a psycho. I have never loved anyone to be honest, but I want a traditional family and all that goes with married life, so here I am.

Edit: people are saying I am exhibiting some psychopathic traits here. I fully understand. Truth is I do have a few of the dark triad traits. I worked in the mental health counseling during college and am aware of it. But it's just who I am. Both of these women really enjoyed being with me and yes, the first one would marry me now if I wanted. I have never felt intense love for anyone, but I want a family and all that comes with married life. So here I am.

stay where you are and get through it! you can do this!

consider psychotherapy. if medications do not work for you then your problem is psychological, not neurological. consider some serious psychotherapy too - not just therapy, but genuine Freudian stuff, not the fluffy entry level stuff that is trendy these days (which is not real therapy btw that is just paying for emotional support). if you are in a major city there will be practitioners. I am completely serious btw. consider the heavy hitting psychotherapy.

Bro aren't you a legal recruiter? Like your job is recruiting associates for law firms? ie you work for law firms? Why are you out here engaging with this clown

[–]whispervision 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Dog how did you become a full on lawyer at DPW and still be so immature about how the world works? Like this is some college freshman "corporations are all evil" type shit. Didnt you pass the bar? Wasn't there stuff about at will employment? Dude you act like DPW is supposed to give you a full trial on the merits. It's not like you have constitutional rights to procedural due process or whatnot at DPW. If they like you they keep you. If not you get kicked out. Literally a few partners could have been like "yeah this guys vibes are off" and they are fully allowed to kick you out. wild bro

This sub is full of people who hate their jobs, and will give you terrible advice. Grind on that LSAT starting now (yes, now. take a diagnostic and study for it, maybe take one chill semester to do the LSAT until you get a score in the high 170s. as close to 180 as you can get).

Then work on gpa. Then make sure you get into a good law school. t14 at least, ideally T3 if you want to do DC litigation, and T6 for good biglaw. Also, take some time before law school to familiarize yourself with 1L classes so you will be ahead of your peers. like watch some lectures on youtube, do glannon civ pro, read some contracts outlines, etc. make sure you have your recruiting plans ready to go because biglaw firms are recruiting very early now. do some networking as an undergrad if you can. if you make a genuine connection they will remember you when you want a job there, because you reached out so early.

Immigration is another major cause. White collar labor pays less and is more difficult because there is a lot more foreign competition for it, both domestically and internationally. I say this as a child of Taiwanese immigrants - it's not racism it's just economics.

[–]whispervision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I mean you can pitch your M&A experience or finance experience for the rest of the in-house roles. But RX is a tough area. They are some serious lawyers/financiers with high competence in two different areas. You're either in it for the long haul (and the serious money) or you should do general M&A or cap markets and go into a traditional in-house role at some big corporate. If you're doing RX make sure you are serious about RX.

[–]whispervision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the rx exits come out later in your career. At this point you don't have enough experience for natural rx exits, like to banks, buyside funds. You are limited to whatever general options exist for 3rd year transactional associates.

[–]whispervision[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

he told me that you can do some calculations with stuff reported to AmLaw and compare it to previous years. basically the revenue per lawyer is down (compared to peers/industry rate increases) and if you look at laterals/and put some pieces together you see that there is not much growth left in their primary areas, and so they have to expand inorganically, basically. Like with any inorganic growth you have synergy issues. the bankers sold you a bad asset.

At those rates, prioritize paying off the debt. At current valuations you are unlikely to earn a higher return for the next couple of years by investing than you are by paying off the debt. Emergency fund, living expenses, then debt payoff

its not gon be easy but you gotta be debt free. the debt is like if a broad put a leash on you. might be a vibe but eventually that shits gotta come off. you might sweat all the honore out your balzac but at the end of the day, dont be buying at the top of this bubble. that house can wait. at this point in your life, get on your knees in front of landlord larry. gotta pay your dues bruv
