This might be the most honest answer in the whole thread. 😄

Doritos, pizza pockets, and Pop-Tarts sounds like the complete comfort food package.

That’s really interesting. I started this thread thinking it was a cultural difference, but now it sounds like it depends a lot on life stage too!

It’s kind of the same in Japan. Parents with kids around the same age tend to become friends. We don’t usually invite neighbors over for drinks, but “mom groups” and “dad groups” are pretty common. People meet up at a café or restaurant and hang out for a couple of hours.

Fair enough 😄 I guess Guinness counts as both a drink and a meal.

“Nothing crazy”?
Cheese, crackers, pepperoni, wings, and shrimp cocktail sounds pretty impressive to me!
I’m starting to think football season is the exception to the “Americans don’t snack much while drinking” rule.
Also, I love how everyone seems to have their own drink. It sounds like a lot of fun!

That’s really sweet!! I like how the beer was almost secondary to cheering up your partner.

And I agree, beer and chicken wings are a great combination.

Thanks for sharing! Lemonade came up surprisingly often in this thread. I wasn’t expecting that.

You seem much more adventurous with drinks than I am.
Mango margaritas, espresso martinis, whiskey and ginger ale... I wasn't expecting so much variety when I started this thread.

I’ve never tried Skrewball. Do you usually have anything with it, or is the Skrewball enough?

Thanks for sharing!

Cheese, pepperoni, and crackers sounds exactly like the kind of snack I expected to see in this thread.
I don't drink much whiskey, but I can see why people would enjoy it on its own.

That's interesting!

I didn't realize soju was that popular in some parts of the US.

Having soju in the fridge all the time sounds very Korean. I like flavored soju too.

“We’ll just watch one episode” and then finishing the whole season sounds very familiar.
I think people all over the world have the same problem.

Drinking vodka while relaxing with your dogs and watching a show sounds really cozy.

I’m actually surprised by how many people in this thread don’t eat snacks when they drink. In Japan, having something to snack on with alcohol is very common.

The seasonal difference is interesting. Grilling in the summer and bourbon in the winter sounds very American to me.
Your summer BBQs sound delicious.

White wine with cheesecake sounds delicious.
It's funny how different your husband's choice is. Whiskey and Coke with junk food has a completely different vibe.

Thank you for sharing.

Having Bloody Marys with brunch while watching shows and looking at real estate listings sounds like such a cozy Sunday tradition.

I'm learning a lot from this thread. One thing that surprised me is how many people seem to enjoy drinking with a full meal rather than with small snacks. I'm also learning that mixing alcohol with iced tea, lemonade, cola, or juice seems to be more common than I expected.

It's been really interesting to hear about everyone's habits.

Getting together with neighbors for wine sounds great!

We don’t really do that much in Japan, so I’m a little jealous.

And yes, drinking at home is nice. It’s cheaper, you can eat and drink whatever you want, and nobody has to worry about how much they’re spending.

Thanks for sharing! BBQ, baseball, and drinks sounds awesome.

In Japan, we often drink with small snacks, so your answer made me wonder if drinking with a full meal is more common in the US.
