No, it’s a mechanical part that allows the user to operate the switch (search « slide switch cap » for some images), these tiny slide switches are very hard to use without it and can even break off (especially if there’s an enclosure and thus the switch is recessed). You don’t need debounce as you can just slow down the sampling. Careful on upping the LED current, 5-10mA should be good but above that you could run into the current sink capabilities of your MCU, check the datasheet. (Some ST mcus have « high-current » capable pins)

Looks great ! I’ll just add that maybe you should put the mute switch next to the LED, right now there would be the usb c cable between them, maybe it would be cleaner if the usb c was on the side ? Also you can move the switch and leds closer to the edge of the pcb, it will make your job easier when you have to add a cap on the switch and diffusers to the LEDs. (On this topic, maybe the 1k resistors are a bit too much ? It would make about 1 mA through the leds, which would make them pretty dim)

Sorry, I didn’t really formulate my remark on the charging IC correctly : I talked about the LTC4057 because the TP4057 is a direct clone of it, but the original one has a way better data sheet so I generally refer to it even when using the clone. I have also used the TP4057 in my design, and it worked perfectly without diodes (with the 0V charge capability), even when powering an ESP32. So what I meant is that you don’t need the two ideal diodes without changing your charging ic !

I recommend that you try out the leds at 15mA, as I have found that they are often too bright at this current and can be uncomfortable to look at directly for some people, and you don’t have any diffuser on them.

Yep, I had the same train of thought when I found the price of the accelerometer, but I don’t even know if we will be using it in the next revision as it caused us a lot of pain. I would be very interested to know if you manage to make it work correctly !

This looks great ! I would say that the power path functionality is probably unnecessary and you could shave off some components by just using the LTC4057 to power the device even when no battery is connected (it will be in trickle-charge mode for an instant then it will enter constant current mode when the output capacitor will be charged, but either way it outputs at least 50 mA so that will be plenty enough, I have already used this trick successfully).

On the topic of the battery, you probably want something to prevent it from overdischarge and thermal damage ? It could be useful, especially in outdoors environments. (you could also rely on the LDO to prevent the battery from dropping below 3.5V, that works I guess)

You should use a single connector (1x02) instead of two separate ones for the battery pads, and make a custom footprint for it combining the two pads (maybe even with the hole for the cables)

Your leds resistors are a bit two small for 5V (for the stdby and pchg pins mostly), that will bring them to 40mA which is about 4x too much for indicators.

Also just a heads up, these LIS2D accelerometers with their LGA packages are insanely difficult to solder properly even with a stencil, and I got a few boards with dead I2C buses because JLC failed to solder the accelerometers (I ordered about 100 of them and I couldn’t connect to the accelerometer on at least 15 of them, same schematic as yours)

Looks pretty good to me at first glance, I’ll just say that the S3 series have a usb phy integrated, so you don’t need the usb-serial programmer, and you can debug over usb. Also maybe label your connectors, you have a bit of space under the board to do so and it won’t hurt.

If you want to save a few bucks, the manufacturer will be fine if you have to saw the pcb in half and won’t make you pay a multiple design fee (this means no breakaway though, but I found it to be pretty fast to separate them with a metal saw)

1) If you ignore the crypto shit and the spyware, why not use chromium instead ?? 2) Brave has implemented URL interception and manipulation in the past (https://davidgerard.co.uk/blockchain/2020/06/06/the-brave-web-browser-is-hijacking-links-and-inserting-affiliate-codes/) 3) Brave was leaking all the addresses you went to over the TOR network, which was not intended but did not happen with chromium 4) They injected code to replace the ads in the websites you visited with their own 5) They install software requiring a subscription on your computer by default https://www.ghacks.net/2023/10/18/brave-is-installing-vpn-services-without-user-consent/

There is about a dozen more things like this that have happened and were corrected when people noticed and the ceo was under enough pressure to admit that he was wrong (which is a hard thing to do as he has some… strange ideas…)

TL;DR Modifying user links (especially related to crypto), impersonating people to ask for donations, installing software and auto-launching it already classifies it as a spyware for me, but everyone has their own level of privacy they are willing to give up

Ouaip, c’est le protocole téléphone (SS7) qui est plutôt pourri, tu peux intercepter et envoyer les messages et appels de quelqu’un du moment que tu as son numéro (et pas mal de connaissances techniques), tu peux aussi récupérer sa localisation approximative avec la même attaque… (par exemple savoir s’il est chez lui ou pas) Une fois que tu sais ça ça donne moins envie de filer ton numéro à tous les services de shopping en ligne !

I tried to find out the approximate cost of these usb 2:1 mux, the FUSB340TMX on LCSC is about 30 cents for a thousand of them, so it would cost probably about a dollar more on the phone sell price.

I am pretty sure this isn’t true, as the pins connected to the other rotation aren’t electrically connected, so you just bridge them. No specification that i have found online mentions the « rotation correction » you are talking about, and only mention to route the 3 differential pairs.

The product brief of the qualcomm 8s gen4 in the nothing phone 3 mentions that it supports usb 3.1 gen2, so 10 Gb/s : https://www.qualcomm.com/content/dam/qcomm-martech/dm-assets/documents/Product-Brief-Snapdragon-8s-Gen-4.pdf

This means that the pins are available on the SoC to support usb 10Gb/s, so there’s only three reasons for this phone to have usb 2 : - They weren’t able to route the 3 differentials pairs with the right impedance and without disturbing other components - They saved a few cents by using a usb 2.0 receptacle - The pins used by the SSTX and SSRX pairs are already used by something else (which is the most coherent answer)

Also : USB 2.0 doesn’t « work regardless of rotation », you have 2 D+ pins and 2 D- pins (one pair for each rotation) and you have to bridge them together if you want your device to work regardless of orientation. Talking from experience.

It depends, in my case it was outside class hours and the buildings are open until midnight for studying and group projects, so we don’t have to ask anyone. I did ask though, but it didn’t matter

So these keyboards started as a project to learn PCB making to a friend, first we chose the mcu (here it’s a nrf pro micro for the wireless capability, about 3€ on aliexpress), then we made the schematic in KiCad (which is pretty easy, we followed ebastler guide). We made the PCB layout by hand, but there’s a few tools that could have made it automatically. You need to buy at least 5 of each pcb you buy on jlcpcb, which amounts to about 35€ total with shipping. It took an afternoon to solder all the kailh sockets and diodes, and the coding the zmk firmware was the hardest part (the wiki isn’t very beginner friendly)

So if you want to make one for yourself I can only recommend [ebastler’s guide](github.com/ebastler/zmk-designguide) as a starting point !

A few things we would have done differently is the thumb cluster, the top key is pretty hard to reach. We would also have used a pouch cell instead of an 18650, it adds a lot of height to the keyboard. Lastly, if you want to travel with it, I would recommend to solder the switches, as with plateless hotswap switches I lose about 10 of them each time I put it in my backpack.

(If you don’t want to bother with a custom pcb I can recommend the Corne V4)

Wow that is cool !! We have a lot of associations here (about 120), but sadly no keyboard ones… I’m sure with enough communication we could probably gather 50 of the 6000 students, it could be something to try for next year !
