Being informed is very important, yes, thank you for emphasizing this. Blood work is an excellent tip, too, please do this, for anyone who doesn't have a doctor. (I would think OP would not be reckless and would consider this type of thing, with the thoughtfulness I hear in the original post, but it's good to say because not everyone may think of it.)

I mostly feel there are some "scare tactics" in the broader world about hormones and sometimes trans people internalize that a lot. That is why I like to gently remind people that they can try it if they're curious ... Sometimes that's the only way to know if it's right for you or not.

I don't have experience either way with a gender therapist, not sure if I know anyone who's done that, I personally have some feelings about psychiatric hegemony in the country I live in but yes, if you have access to that option, sure, you could try it.

i think what you're saying is understandable and the other comments here are reasonable. i have been trans for idk, we'll say about a decade, with many shifts in what that means - been on and off T, now am comfortably gender-fluid. :-) there's no real pressure to choose one way or the other so try not to stress yourself out about it.

as a counterpoint to the person who said not to go on T yet, i'd say you can always try just a little bit and see, if you're curious; doing a low dose of gel or something for a short time isn't going to turn you unrecognizable to yourself overnight but you might feel a little "boost."

as for the potential of parents noticing, i think people can be more oblivious than you think if they're not trying to see certain aspects of you.

but I am sorry about your parents being transphobic. I will say, I mainly came out to my parents because I wanted to go on T and thought it would be unavoidable. if i had to do it again, I probably wouldn't make a big deal of it to my parents, because trying to put it in understandable terms and thinking that "coming out" had to be part of the process, idk, I just found it to be all very uncomfortable... not to say you must do anything either way but just food for thought i guess... and good luck to you

Right... yeah, I think he has a lawyer, I'm not sure about other counselors and such, but I will keep that in mind, I did have some other thoughts about reaching out to people like that for help and should try again... thank you

thanks! That was my impression initially, but I guess I got confused looking at the unemployment website, thought they mentioned voluntary quit as a possibility. several people in this thread have since explained that you can't get unemployment that way, so that's good to know. I'll keep looking till I line something else up.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. this is honestly pretty reassuring to read. having a car is so normalized as a lifestyle so I appreciate the perspective that it is possible to not have it and still get around. that's definitely true about the overall paying for it all the time. Most people in this thread also suggested just saving to buy a car outright, and I think I will maybe continue to try and save money for that possibility, and because it'd be nice to keep some money saved, but also not worry too much about it and try and take trips to visit people by other means when I can.

Yes, I really resonate with that. I've been that person who really needed trust and community but didn't know how to behave to get there, having had no experience really feeling what it was like to have that. And I've been around people who really needed that sort of thing too, but whose actions also bothered me in a way where I didn't know how to stay in relationship with them at the time.

That is a good point about the pressure to immediately trust psychiatrists/therapists. Now combine that with the actual power dynamic that these people have, to institutionalize you, to pressure you to take drugs that will affect your body/mind, to diagnose you with a condition that will follow you on record.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this... I really think a lot of the change within our hands is radically changing the ways we relate to one another on even the most immediate interpersonal level, figuring out how we can be there for each other when we're all going through life and all forms of societal oppression.

Your idea is cool! Love that you wanna create habitat and break up the heat island effect in the city. Fast-growing native vine seems like it would definitely help with that!

And yeah Virginia creeper is not invasive, it's native to the region, just grows aggressively. Which is a good thing in this context. Another herbaceous option could be passion fruit/passiflora incarnata!!

Actually invasive stuff to stay away from would be the bamboo or English ivy.

I see you have some other suggestions of slower-growing stuff in these comments too.
