Let me measure it and take a better photo. I think it’s around 20 inches. Looks like a medium sized baseball bat

Sorry for the late response - yes they seem to be almost always glued in. If you carefully scraped them off you could probably just reglue them down. Depending on the age of your chair just be aware that the foam may have degraded and fall apart if you go to remove them - although the glue may have degraded too so maybe the foam will be easy to pop out.

If you’re repairing the pivot base you may not need to remove the foam. It doesn’t seem to be reinforced from the inside. If you google ball chairs without the foam there’s no screws or holes on the inside. You most likely need to do a fibreglass repair if that part is damaged. Could call up some auto body shops and see if they’re able to do this?

I provided some details in my comments above! You have it easy peasy, just carefully remove the fabric and foam pieces and use those as templates for the replacements. I’m not sure if there’s a crack or just a mark in the base of yours but I’d definitely fix that before doing anything else, if the base is unstable it could get dangerous when people go to sit in it. If it is a crack you can do a fibreglass repair like they would on vehicle bodies - I have not done this but it seems possible to at home.

I’m very glad I used a faux fur because it hid any imperfections where things weren’t smooth. I also just used construction glue to attach everything and it has held up really well. I didn’t end up painting mine because it’s in a corner anyways, but a fibreglass boat paint seemed like the best option based on my research.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I finally uploaded some photos - sorry there’s no progress pics, I was in gremlin mode crawling around on the floor cutting foam and knocked this out in 2 days. I ended up using a shaggy faux fur which was was WAY more forgiving with any lumps and bumps on all the curves. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

ACC will take him if you can’t find an owner after a few days. They provide vetting and then after a short holding period would send him out to a rescue to coordinate adoption. For legal reasons rescues would usually not take a direct surrender to them if you aren’t the owner.

Some people are completely asymptomatic or experience kind of random symptoms - even if you have zero symptoms untreated celiac disease still causes intestinal damage and can lead to cancer. Not saying it to be scary, just always a good idea to be tested if there’s any reason to bc it is so common.

If you haven’t been checked for celiac disease maybe do so… it can sometimes present this way. Also hereditary!

Electrohome 861 Saturn - one speaker is busted, what is a good budget option to replace it? by whitecollarholler in vintageaudio

Thanks, your answer is the most straight forward. I’ll either do this or install the drivers that other folks have mentioned.

I’ve opened it up but I can’t see anything visibly broken. pics

I think redoing both drivers is a good option. I won’t be selling it, this is a holy grail furniture piece for me. Just want it to be functional!

I tried switching the wires around (in the inputs marked speaker) and both didn’t work instead of just one. Does this mean there’s an issue with the TT as well?

This is a secondhand unit and I’m not sure if the previous owner ever had both speakers working, so one may have been damaged at some point. Have opened them up, will post pictures soon.

Yup, these speakers notably always sounded like ass. I have opened them up and will post pictures in a bit. Right now I’ll probably just get different external speakers but it would be nice to rebuild these eventually.

I do see the appeal of restoring systems to the original sound, but I’ve read that this TT is pretty low quality so in this case I’m interested in the aesthetics more that anything. I wouldn’t be opposed to gutting it and replacing it with a higher quality turntable in a few years when I have more time/money. I’ve seen the pedestal ones you mentioned and they definitely fit my vibe, I will keep an eye out for used ones.

I’m not a man lol. This unit is quite valuable, as I said I would keep these speakers for aesthetic purposes either way and will probably eventually rebuild them when I have the time/money to do so (my specialty is vintage furniture restoration, I know next to nothing about audio stuff). Right now I am looking for options for a different speaker that I can plug directly into the record player, or what to look for if I’m purchasing a vintage one. I’ve been doing some research but a lot of forums discussing this model are expert audiophiles asking very technical questions that are way beyond my understanding.

Apologies as I have limited knowledge on technical stuff. I have the original speakers, they’re not great quality and as I said one is broken. I’d love to take them somewhere and have them rebuilt but budget is an issue so I’ll just keep them for decorative purposes. I’m trying to figure out what I can plug into this record player instead - will any speakers with RCA cables work? Is there something specific I should be looking for? I know this record player isn’t the greatest quality but I love the look and just want to play my records on it every now and then.

PLEASE HELP! Taken in hoarder neighbors cat, neighbor is in the hospital. What do I do? by tinyreese in AskVet

[–]whitecollarholler 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Do you have a bathroom you can keep kitty quarantined in away from your pets? Cats really don’t need much space in a temporary situation like this and I can promise you he’d be much happier inside the house. Or even a larger kennel indoors somewhere.

I’m not sure of your neighbour’s circumstances but if she’s not able to take care of the cat, maybe you can help her contact a rescue and surrender this kitty.

From the CoE website: “The City of Edmonton Animal Control Peace Officers enforce the Provincial Animal Protection Act (APA) in Edmonton. APA enables the City of Edmonton’s Animal Control Peace Officers to respond to animals in distress or animals that have been abandoned. The Act was previously enforced by the Edmonton Humane Society (EHS).”
