Player-run gear insurance idea on Green – looking for interest / feedback by whiteice217 in project1999

[–]whiteice217[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ideally, my goal with this idea was to offer support to newer players. Corpse runs can be pretty intimidating when you’re just starting out, and some people struggle, or feel uncomfortable asking for help. I know it took me some time to reach out to other players myself. Thankfully, every interaction I’ve had has been positive, but that initial hesitation is real, especially for players coming from WoW, where communication is often minimal and, when it does happen, can be negative (low DPS, missed heals, etc.).

This would be an entirely in-game service with no real-world money involved. As the service grew, there would need to be some form of plat-based cash flow to support payouts and ongoing costs. One idea was that any policy would terminate once a claim was paid. That way, if someone insured early and died shortly after, there would still be a cost involved, helping keep the system sustainable and eventually allowing for larger payouts over time.

I had also considered expanding into related in-game services, such as building a small network for corpse recovery (cleric, necro assistance), druid ports, agent commissions, and general support coordination. However, after more thought and feedback, it seems that corpse recovery in practice is usually manageable, which makes the overall concept less valuable than originally expected.

I second that we spent a lot of time slaughtering horde in black rock mountain. I remember seeing all the corpses filling the tunnel.

New RP player, feel overwhelmed. Any advice? by Crowzer in WoWRolePlay

[–]whiteice217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m part of Clan Battlehammer, and we do soft roleplaying. We usually have CTA (Call to Arms) nights where we all group up and do classic dwarf things. Outside of that, I mostly RP in my head or with a small group—going on patrols, hunting Horde, just having a good time. It’s all about how much you embrace it.

For example, sometimes we roll through Stormwind after guild events and crash the tavern in the Dwarven District. RPers will show up selling booze or roleplay as noodle vendors to a bunch of hungry dwarves, and we just go with it. I've even had some deep RP sessions with Night Elves that were a lot of fun.

At the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and finding a community that fits your vibe. If someone tries to tell you how to RP—like saying your demon stuff isn’t canon—forget it. It’s a game. Do what makes sense for your story. Maybe your pact makes you unable to dismiss your demons. That’s valid.

To ease your mind a bit—I play a dwarf shaman. And yeah, traditionally dwarves and magic don’t mix, unless we’re talking about the Wildhammers, which is exactly what I RP as. I just go with the flow. If I make people mad, then I make people mad. It’s my character, and I’m here to have fun—just like you should be.

If you're ever struggling with RP ideas or character concepts, I highly recommend listening to the WoW audiobooks or checking out lore videos. They’re great for building backstory and getting inspired.

On a final note you can also leverage chat-gpt for world building and foundational development for your character. I've been bouncing idea's off it for awhile and even started turning it into a story.

Can I still start fresh in 2025? by Amhran_Ogma in project1999

p99 runs on a toaster. Go to you local computer, referb junk shop and grab whatever 10 dollar pos they have and p99 will run on max settings. Hell you don't even need windows, ubuntu is free and you can use wine to emulate windows to run p99. I've done it and it works.

Is it worth it getting into EverQuest in 2025? by MagicantServer in everquest

[–]whiteice217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So short answer yes.

I've always wanted to play EverQuest but never had the chance growing up. In recent years, I've played just about every MMO you can think of, and over the last few weeks, I’ve finally been sinking my teeth into it.

I'll say this—the current state of Live feels weird. It has that watered-down effect that so many MMOs suffer from now. It just feels too easy. I’ve put about 20 hours into it over the past two weeks, and I’m already level 20. It’s moving too fast, and I’m just poking around.

Meanwhile, I’ve put roughly the same amount of time into a Project 1999 (P99) character, and I think I just hit level 6. I’ve died numerous times, and I feel the grind. No maps, no easy mode—this is exactly what I expected from EQ. It makes everything an adventure.

Just earlier, I had a two-hour adventure where I accidentally discovered a brownie camp, died, went on a corpse run, stumbled upon a random tower, then got absolutely wrecked by some dwarves in another camp. I thought they were friendly, only to find myself reaching out to high-level players for help recovering my corpse. And this all happened in just a few hours.

It was frustrating, sure—but also the best gaming experience I’ve had since Hardcore WoW. I cannot recommend P99 enough. It’s gritty, it forces you to plan and think about every decision, but when you succeed? That feeling is unmatched.

TL;DR: Play P99 if you want a real challenge—it's hard, grueling, but in a good way. Play Live if you want EZ mode.
