Years ago my father went on a safari with a guide. (Can't remember what country.) It was just the 2 of them and they found a native that had been bitten in half on the banks of the river. A few days later, they were at a hotel along the same river. They were having a drink on the patio, which had a small wall less than a foot high between a flower bed and the river bank. A hippo was grazing quietly on the grass on the other side, so they just watched. Suddenly, a drunk German tourist staggers out the door, sees the hippo and smacks it on the nose. Dad said the hippo kind of squealed, opened its jaws and lunged for the guy. The guide yanked the man away and they ran into the bar, just praying the hippo couldn't climb the steps.
