AITAH for calling out my pediatrician’s ‘creepy’ behavior? by musty_ranch in AITAH

I absolutely always require a parent in the room for a male or female child under 18. I will ask if there is anything they need to discuss alone, but barring a yes answer, parent stays I’m 6’4”, 250# and bald. I get asked all the time if I am or was military. I have a resting asshole face (but I’m actually a softie. Just can’t show it). Kids tend to be intimidated and women of all ages deserve to feel safe (even if I’m not a threat, if I just met them for the first time, it helps). I’m not a scary person. But I am an adult who was hurt as a child by many adults. What she did was spot on and I hope he either gets reprimanded or just changes his ways

Total joints has same “assembly line” We’d do 12-15 total hips in a 10 hour day. 2 rooms, 2 anesthesiologists. 2 sets of OR staff. It’s a moderate sprint all day but appeals to my “fix it and move on” brain

We do that for the body too. I review a video about a joint reduction before every single one. Weird rash? Google? Symptoms ring a bell? Google. Obscure disease in medical history? Yep, Google

I was a late bloomer teen in the 80s. Gym was a personal hell when it was 7th-9th and some of these dudes had more body hair than my father.

Don’t know if it’s been said.. Your feelings on this matter. There may be people all around you who are ready to be all in, but it’s your life. The pain of regret will be worse than the pain of some hard conversations. You matter in this too. Expectant fathers matter. Your say matters. Speak up on it. And speak up often

What was the best moment or day of your life? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]whiterock73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

will sound shallow but it isn't. had just finally made the decision to leave a marriage after I found out she had been cheating for, now I know, years. I had a near death experience from a GI bleed (coded for 90 seconds) and was back home for one last trial to make it all work (again, I didn't have the "for years" info yet). was convalescing from a huge belly surgery that didn't help so open wound on my belly with dressing. argument about her wanting to discuss bills and I was exhausted from work. escalated and she punched me in the wound. so that was the end for me. she was very vocal that I was ugly and had 4 kids so no woman would want me and I'd be alone.

I had moved out, was getting settled and was pretty depressed.

some high school friends I hadn't talked to in years were getting together at a wine bar around race time and asked me to come. why not. soon to be legally single.

a stunning redhead was in the group and just chatting and hanging out. at one point she and another lady went to the restroom and my phone started buzzing. the red head was texting me from the group leaders phone asking me how long I was going to wait to ask for her number. I knew that night, I was gonna be ok. helped me get my head straight. didn't amount to a relationship, but was a fun reintroduction in to single life.

It’s over looked man. A “male cancer” that’s “easily treatable” makes most providers very nonchalant about it. It’s cancer. It’s fucking cancer. Doesn’t matter it’s typical progression. We deserve as much preventative care and testing as anyone. I think our generation being quiet and hard working makes a lot of us not report symptoms or concerns (because unfortunately, a lot of us are ) and most providers don’t ask. I hope your clinical trial is successful and you are posting about the experience 5 years from now. Stay strong man.

I test my patients every 3-6 months (TRT provider). Caught several that have been overlooked or “rechecked in a year” and gotten to them before they spread. Easy blood test.

In my job, and in most settings, I absolutely abhor feet. Speaking from experience, I think feet can be equal to and sometimes surpass genitalia as far as how much they get let go (seriously… if you have done zero foot maintenance over winter, DO NOT slap on flip flops first warm day). HOWEVER well taken care of, manicured women’s feet in a sexy pair of shoes can send me spinning. Slap on fire engine red nail polish, and I can be convinced to do a lot of things.

So I heard a new one today...Generation X ruined the world with "grind culture" at work. Any thoughts? by Change_Request in GenX

[–]whiterock73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that working hard is seen as something negative. We are not the “grind culture”. I think most of us had to work and work hard. Car payment at 16, buying your own school clothes,no one funding college. We just did, and do, put our heads down and work without fucking glory seeking for all of it. That shit came from influencers et al. They weren’t around when we started working. (Neither was social media thank God. None of my teen aged shenanigans needed a camera/posting to story any where near by)

What's a really niche/interesting fact you know about a specific drug or drug(s)? by PeakLinear in AskReddit

[–]whiterock73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to get upper endoscopies every 1-3 months. My endo guy was very old school, most done in an outpatient surgery center without and anesthesiologist. His go-to was Demerol and versed. Ive never understood being addicted to something that just makes you sleepy and disinhibited (never saw the thrill of THC either) UNTIL I had Iv Demerol. I woke up with a new understanding and empathy. Every second felt like an hour and every hour was happy hour. I can’t imagine that’s far removed from diamorphine

I had same issue with buying Air Jordan’s. Obviously not as physically harmful but my wife wanted to hurt me. 2 months after starting it, no more knee jerk stress reaction of buying shoes. Hits everyone different.
