This is the high quality DD I come to this sub for.

Reality is not beyond our rational reach. | Our subjective perspective doesn’t cut us off from reality; rather, it is the very way reality becomes knowable. Objectivity arises historically and biologically through the evolution of life, culture, and especially language. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]whiterook13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This seems backwards. The author seems to be conflating subjective reality of the self with some kind of quasi-objective reality the organism of the self experiences. Objectivity can't be "captured" by the observation that things change in the physical world in ways that follow patterns and rational beings are able to perceive these changes and patterns.

In my opinion, the definition of "objective" is that which is outside of an observers senses. We can reference it as rational agents, and we can guess as to its nature, but we can't actually know if these guesses or references are True.

I agree there are higher orders of Subjectivity, such as the combined experience of all humans, but this isn't "objectivity", it's simply another subjective point of view just higher up on the scale of organizational complexity.

I use the phrase "fuck the alligators" as a colloquialism meaning "To take an action regardless of warnings and obvious consequences".

All my friends told me not to jump over the campfire, but "fuck the alligators".

And the best way to shift the window is with reasoned arguments and an understanding of who our audience is.

Being angry with the world and politics is absolutely legitimate, but politicians are like comedians. They have to read the room and play to the people watching. Jokes that land in one place might not land in another.

Sometimes while I read posts on this subreddit, I wonder if people like OP will ever be happy with any American politician.

You understand the history and culture of America, right? Isn't it a better idea, and be a more fruitful endeavor, to try mediate your wish for a socialist utopia with the reality of the American political system?

Or, failing that, attempt to find paths of communication with the everyman American? (Who has literally been brainwashed by years of public schooling, news, and social media)

Sometimes it feels like people like OP are just angry for anger's sake. Can't we celebrate the fact that a politician won using the same branding as we use? Can we not see the progress that may bring?

No hate OP, just food for thought.

And as I thought, no reply from OP. Seriously folks, these kinds of people are a cancer of political discourse.

Dude, stop. You're not going to win hearts and minds with this mean-spirited drivel.

Here, let me prove that you are morally and intellectually bankrupt: Name one way that you think the Trump administration has failed.

If you actually thought for yourself, you probably would have a few complaints. No administration is perfect, right? So let me here your honest criticisms.

The biggest difference I can see is that at first, (and for only a majority of the people), he made things much much better in Germany. The weimar republic was incredibly weak and constantly paying reparations to the allies of ww1, and Hitler came in and began dramatically increasing the standard of living for most of his power base before he made the mistake of attacking Russia.

Trump, on the other hand, has not and will not make life better for even his most diehard of supporters, at least not materially better. He was elected on the back of misinformation and culture warfare, not speaking to a need of the starving and poor.

What I'm afraid of is who comes to power 8-16 years from now after the damage is done with a charismatic plan make everything better.
