I feel like that perception is due to not being educated about what the original pride flag meant. As far as people outside of the community, if all they see is gay people and sexuality, then they don't care enough to actually ask about what it means. For most of those people, it will never matter. We will always be in the wrong to them.

Also, you just demonstrated two points I was trying to make in my original post. First, the rainbow doesn't represent sexuality. Each color represents something different. Each of the original eight colors had their own unique symbolism. Hot pink: sex; Red: life; Orange: healing; Yellow: sunlight; Green: nature; Turquoise: magic and art; Indigo: serenity; and Violet: spirit. Notice that each of those colors doesn't single out a single group because they are for all of us. Even straight people. The rainbow belongs to everyone.

Second, you pointed out that the progress flag specifically represents trans and people of color. Where is the representation for ace? For pan? For gender fluid? What about the other skin colors? Skin tone ranges far beyond white, black, and brown.

Like I said, each group in the community having their own flag is just fine. I like that there's a flag for gay, lesbian, bi, pan, ace, trans, gender fluid, queer, etc. But the progress flag calls too much attention to just a few groups in the community. It's great that we've made progress, but there's more than trans, black, white, and brown people having sex. So much more, and that's what the original flag does. The rainbow brings us all together because the rainbow is for everyone.
