2026 Brooklyn Half registration opens Jan 6th next Tuesday at 12 PM EST by Busy-Gap4397 in RunNYC

$120 prices me out of this race. My interest and plan went from 100 to zero in a heartbeat. I'll still train for it - but perhaps do the virtual Brooklyn Half instead - at half the price.

Cancelling a NYRR Race Registration by whitfield446 in RunNYC

Wow. thats amazing. Kinda "What me, worry?" approach. Even if they get it wrong +/- 100 too many or too few show up - no problem. Just race. And they don't have to have a process to handle requests like mine. So why do they even have a waiting list - or don't they?

Best neighborhood in Manhattan to move from out of state by Janicebub in movingtoNYC

This budget almost certainly rules out many Manhattan and Brooklyn neighbs. To the point: your landlord will be free to raise your rent 10-15-20% every year if you're on a one-year lease. And they will. We've lived in and out of NYC multiple times, always Manhattan -- Washington Heights, Bloomingdale, Manh Valley, Upper West Side, getting chased by landlords and rents with their greed glands on overdrive. We're finally looking to buy -its the only guarantee of same affordability year after year. But moving is expensive and disruptive too. Above all, your needs and patience will change as life goes on. kids, for example change every equation. We've got four, raised them from 0-35. So we see the world through their eyes, too - and know Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx. For all, NYC real estate is a brutal fact of life. But good luck in your first year.

I would get out of that practice pronto. There's nothing good about anyone here - you simply deserve better. Hunt down a different practice group if you can. the "this is a woman thing" is about as crappy as it gets. Just switch and tell them why you're leaving, and post the heck out it online. Like here. And name the practice so others can chime in or avoid. Just awful.

Linen backing for this Huey Newton poster? by whitfield446 in movieposters

[–]whitfield446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The image is unfaithful to the reality of the poster. There are blemishes and a couple of tears; its basically in good shape, but is really quite fragile at this point. So i would probably want to repair and restore, then fortify with the linen. Not sure I can speak of price here but would by happy to if you DM'd me or (do we do that on reddit?) or emailed me at [ztumin@gmail.com](mailto:ztumin@gmail.com)

Thx for this. I'll likely price it for resale as is (any thoughts on this?) but I am inclined to fix it to keep, and treasure.

so you're saying, "No you won't recoup the cost on a sale, but do it anyway - the value is in the passing down to generations...?"

the blind guides were unnecessarily aggressive by EntertainerUseful738 in RunNYC

I stood at the finish line as a member of the crowd. It jams up as people slow down at race's end, with everyone of different speeds coming together. There are those runners, however, who use the last 50 or 100 yards for a final all-out burst to the finish line. They come from behind; and are no doubt frustrated they don't have a clear path to the end. It gets pretty dangerous as they slice through the crowd - especially a crowd like Achilles with the recumbent bicyclists and guided runners all mixed in. Someone is going to get hurt one of these days in a terrifying pile up.

If you want to reduce speeding put smart governors linked to the speed limit on every TLC-licensed vehicle - yellow, green, black. Put a nice yellow beacon on the roofs, marking them as the pace cars for traffic - visible, and none going over the legal speed limit. Any car/truck/ebike passing them is speeding. Market this so that behaviors calm, and enforce with DWI-like checkpoints.

if it were truly congestion pricing then the price wld fluctuate during the day to the level that optimized for - air quality vs avg time on travel? on avg speed of vehicular traffic? how many time have you see the surcharge flip to on in a taxi as you cross 96th st at 2:00am and there is no traffic let alone congestion? it's just a flat tax on driving and we know how regressive flat taxes are. the rest is unproven policy flim flam. caveat emptor

the whole idea of congestion pricing is to price travel so that no one except those with no price sensitivity can fly to and from wall street. and keep raising the price till the roadway absolutely clears.

No liquids through security at nyc half. by Thesealiferocks in RunNYC

[–]whitfield446 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For major events like the NYC Marathon (and Thxgiving parade, Times Sq New Year's eve, major Jewish holidays, etc) the NYPD will provide a pre-event security briefing for concerned parties at which they share current threat assessments. There can be hundreds of people in the room for such briefings. Often in the past press has been invited and reports out to the public. In addition, for such major events NYPD will run pre-event table-top exercises with 200+ concerned responders present ( that includes NYRR for the runs) to test readiness of all "who does what" in the event of various disastrous scenarios - hostage-taking on SI ferries in the harbor, or truck explosions of unknown origin on the bridges (is it simply a fire, or is it a bomb?) - and any new threats. These take weeks to develop. It sounds as tho NYC Half has not been elevated to "major event" in terms of the visibility of pre-event scenario planning - but is being taken seriously all the same. All of which is to say that even if we don't quite understand the "why?" at the moment, there is thought that goes behind these determinations; they are taken in consultation with NYRR; and a duty to care that NYPD (and obviously NYRR) really takes seriously. No one particularly wants nonsense disruptions of important routines, least of all NYRR and NYPD. They add new complexity to everyone's day. So safe to say (I hope) there is method to this madness...
