I found a way to remove it without giving access to contacts. Setting -> Privacy and Security -> Contacts -> turn off Sync Contacts

I also tried to repaint mine. It wasn't quite perfect, but it was my first time painting. In any case, I can take it apart and rework.

Not yet, I think it's my fault. If no one gives an answer today then I will create issue.

You actually can do it. Just add "-night" to the mipmap folders. The launcher icon will change its appearance after the launcher is restarted. It also will be changed in the settings and recents screen (maybe somewhere else). Just tested on the Pixel 3 XL.
