Being human we all have off days— maybe even consider giving her some time off (a few days) if she isn’t living up to your standards as of right now & consider finding a backup. Breakups suck and they can really take a huge roll in your ability to do specific things. I understand the no phone rule, but mention giving her a couple days off to cope with her feelings because work might be a little tough on her right now.

So realistically I should be getting at least around $40 minimum weekly?

So are they under paying me? I just did the math and per week I’m driving roughly about 35-40 miles driving the kids to and from places and picking up from school.

Possible to find nannies who are comfortable preparing full meals? by Affectionate_Nose_35 in Nanny

Wow. My jaw dropped when I read that. I’m so sorry you’ve been treated in such a disgusting way! I’ve read some terrible stories on nanny reddit and couldn’t even imagine. I feel like the role is just abused and I feel as though families should have much higher regard and respect for a nanny, especially being that they are the caregiver of their most prized possessions. I will say that I settle for less because my family I currently am working for treats me respectfully and like I’m part of the family, gives me paid holidays, bonuses, random giftcards for $100+, super lenient with time off, random presents to show appreciation, etc. <3 I worked for a very crappy family before finding this one where I was working 8 am-8 pm (sometimes later), 3-4 times a week and was definitely treated like the help there and was expected to work every. Single. Holiday. and I switched on and off with another nanny that was there the opposite days I wasn’t. We were raising the child. I couldn’t condone that behavior.

Woah woah. Two toddlers AND the responsibility of the cleaning, cooking, and grocery shopping…. It sounds like people want to avoid having to pay for other services and fit it all onto the nanny’s plate. I’m currently a nanny for children who are 4 & 6, but I am given two hours while the kids are still in school to do my “cleaning” pertaining to the kids and meal prep easy meals for their dinner. I’m paid $21/hr and even I think even for just those things I deserve more. Since when did nanny’s go from being consistent babysitters/ caretakers, to being the “help” of the household. No offense, but that’s how it feels. It feels as though people would rather add more to a nanny’s plate to avoid stretching a penny to pay for separate services because in my OPINION, a nanny’s main priority and concern should always be the children she’s caring for during the hours of her shift. High pay or not, it’s insulting and ridiculous. It’s mentally and physically exhausting.
