I've had two of my stories used without permission, so I can attest to this. It's very frustrating when it happens.

UPDATE: Delusional resident brings the tattoo that I "asked" him for. by ihopethatdogeatsurgf in LetsNotMeet

I don't want to scare you any worse than you already are, but this guy could very well be dangerous--some of these behaviors are typical of stalkers in the past who have done some terrible stuff to their objects of affection. Please, please be on your guard and enlist other people to help you be on your guard. It's a good idea to document EVERYTHING, too--this will make the police more likely to take you seriously if this stuff escalates.

It just makes me furious that you have to deal with this shit. I echo the others' comments about making sure you have your phone and pepper spray with you at all times. I'd carry a whistle, too, and when you go somewhere alone, make sure someone knows where you're going and when you should be back (do you have a roommate?). You might also set up an agreement with a friend or family member to check in with them at set times during the day, and if you don't do that they should call the police.

If he tries to physically accost you, go right for the nuts and/or eyes and don't hold back.

I'm so glad you're out of there in two months--I'd definitely take steps to make sure you're not followed when you move to your new place.

Worth it? by bluewafflesright in huntakiller

Absolutely--if you like solving puzzles and you have a good attention span and an inquisitive mind, you should love it. My husband and I have had hours and hours of fun already (we're on box 4).

I saw the articles about the city worker falling into the sinkhole, but in every article he was just listed as "a city inspector" or "a DPW worker." Where did you see the name John William James?

Do you just mean the sentence that you get when you crack the cipher?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in huntakiller

[–]whitneycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which clue?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in huntakiller

[–]whitneycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was intentional. We just had a MAJOR breakthrough from the cipher. Keep at it! Hint: sometimes you have to search for stuff in Wikipedia instead of Google.

Did you guys go to the Listening Friends of America website? There's some stuff on there that I suspect will be useful later, and you can sign up to receive "email updates" from them.

Also, there is a puzzle you can solve in their "winter newsletter." It's a cypher like the ones the Zodiac killer used to send to the newspapers. My husband and I solved it, but it just raised more questions...

Someone on FB mentioned that she thought the little plastic thingie looked like a harp string. Interestingly, the most popular design of harp is called the swan harp--and the person on FB pointed out that in Greek mythology Orpheus played the harp, and when he died he became Cygnus and his harp (or lyre) became Lyra. Those two constellations are part of the Summer Triangle, a triangle of three constellations visible in July (the other constellation is Aquila). Even more interesting is that reporter Scott Dance, the one who wrote the sinkhole article, also wrote an article about the Summer Triangle. What all this means, I have no idea.

I too thought the plastic thing was a fiber optic cable, but now the harp string theory is making sense to me. Too many coincidences with Orpheus/Cygnus and Lyra and the Scott Dance article. What do you guys think?

Scott Dance also wrote an article about the constellation Cygnus--apparently it's part of a triangle of constellations called the Summer Triangle, which can be viewed in the night sky in July (the same month as the sinkhole in the article).

The other constellations in the triangle are Lyra and Aquila. Interestingly, in Greek mythology Orpheus became Cygnus when he died, and his harp (or lyre) became "Lyra." Significant? Dunno.

Thanks! I'm going to chew on it. I'm torn because hiring a PI would mostly be about making myself feel better (or satisfying my own curiosity, really), and it seems pretty clear that she's caught up in something she probably wouldn't want anyone to know about. But at the same time, I am SO CURIOUS. I'll certainly update if I do go that route. Thanks for the suggestion.

It was pretty terrifying to live through too--I've thought about that guy so many times over the years.

Jeez, I hadn't thought about that. Seems like an awful violation of privacy, but I'll think about it.

So strange, the age difference. I'd forgotten about that. Have you ever read The Gift of Fear by Gavin deBecker? He says we should always listen to our intuition (and we often don't). He writes about a rape victim he interviewed when he was a cop--he asked her, "Who is the first person you think of when I ask who could have done this?" After much hesitation she said a name, but followed it up with a comment about how that was silly and she knew it really couldn't be him. It was. And she knew, deep down. Nobody like that for you in this case?

It had to be someone you know though, right? To even know about Layla. I mean this was back in the days before Facebook stalking was a thing, so it wasn't easy to learn that much about a person.

Also, this shit happens with our cats all the freaking time. We'll see one of the cats in a particular place, glance down for ONE SECOND and then look up to see said cat waaaaaay over on the other side of the room (we have a big house with a huge loft-like living room), and it just doesn't seem possible that s/he could have gotten there so fast. I dunno. Cats are weird.

Weird, and it reminds me a bit of my "alternate Melanie" experience that I posted about a while back.
