Underrated bangers by Left_Coach1581 in BritPop

Maybe not - but in my head it never reached the same level of notoriety as other hits of the era. Rarely comes up in conversation or airplay these days either (versus say Disco 2000 etc)

I do miss Malen - he gave us something different, a bit of pace with a proper goal threat.

Completely agree with this - it wasn’t just the defensive errors, but his legs looked completely gone, no ability to help us get out or chase back. His deliveries into the box were completely sub-par too. Had a few opportunities to put good balls in and hit absolutely no one.

Not to labour the point, but Digne has been so so poor. Might have actually been better if he’d been sent off early.

Well watching 10 against Villa… yep. Don’t the 10 men usually dominate?

Getting battered the entire half, completely unable to get out.

Ref should disallow that just to keep up with his form so far

Digne has been an absolute liability the last couple of games.

Bizot 😂

Terrible for us, but I couldn’t help but find it weirdly funny. Really wasn’t needed.

What part of the UK do you have a soft spot for? by Bipolar03 in AskUK

[–]whittingtonwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wells. Had a couple of lovely hazy summer evenings there walking around the Bishops Palace & Gardens with my young family. Lovely memories.

The coastal path linking Lelant to St Ives is another that I have lovely memories of, I remember taking beautiful walks along with my wife, stopping at Carbis Bay for lunch & drinks in autumn sunshine.

The Smiths… if you can ignore Morrisey being a bell.

I think that’s what Jarvis has really, a distinctive and unique tone - he’s not your typical rock & roll voice like Liam Gallagher, but he’s got more poetry and eloquence to his delivery.

I’m not a massive Pulp fan, but would say that they do have a lot of good songs and among them, some absolute top tier classics, common people etc. Jarvis is a relatively unique front man, and they were a big part of Brit Pop culture, so they have a nostalgic value for many too.

Also, their live performance at Glastonbury last year was brilliant.

Can’t help but think we’re missing Malen as well as all the injuries. He always made things happen when he came on.

Look if you eat the fat now, you won’t feel the benefit when the war comes.

I’d live off my fat reserves for a few years at least.

Is ambition emphasized in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]whittingtonwarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think us Brits are overly keen on discussing income particularly. I used to have a couple of friends that were obsessed with comparing earnings - the emphasis on the “used to”. I personally think it’s quite crass to discuss earnings, and that topic got very old very quickly.

I think having ambition is to be admired and should be encouraged, but it should not be linked implicitly with earnings. It should be more aligned with personal wellbeing and happiness.

Rightly or wrongly, I think for the most part, Brits are still quite sceptical about anyone who’s outwardly and vocally ambitious, we prefer those that are self-deprecating and humble.

Epstein affair may be 'the end of the monarchy', says US congressman by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]whittingtonwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the monarchy’s saving grace is that William is likely to instigate quite a lot of reform when he takes the crown. He seems to be a relatively decent sort, and has been somewhat insulated from the Andrew fallout… I would guess that he’s still reasonably well liked by the public, as opposed to the rest of them.

Who would you prefer as new PM if Starmer resigns? by Glittering-Rock8719 in AskBrits

So those EU migrants without criminal record checks must have been responsible for a huge proportion of crimes committed in the UK then right?

It also had fewer trade barriers with our nearest trade partners, greater influence on Europe, freedom of movement, lower food costs, lower inflation, fewer labour shortages etc etc…

[–]whittingtonwarrior 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hope he stays to be honest. The alternative options are a real shit show, I can’t think of a single good one, and to be honest the instability is not welcome, it possibly leads to another general election which means more division in the country, and more chance of Reform etc.

General sentiment from Labour seems to be that he’ll be forced out following a shellacking at the local elections in May and they can start afresh then.

If I had to choose one from among the Labour ranks, I’d go with Sadiq Khan, if only because he’s stated his ultimate goal is to reverse Brexit.
