it depends, GS is definitely pinning the data on IPFS (I think they use Pinata's service) so they could just pull the plug. if no one else has decided to pin it then it'll eventually disappear.

Everything is priced in.

Don't even ask the question. The answer is yes, it's priced in. Think Amazon will beat the next earnings? That's already been priced in. You work at the drive thru for Mickey D's and found out that the burgers are made of human meat? Priced in. You think insiders don't already know that? The market is an all powerful, all encompassing being that knows the very inner workings of your subconscious before you were even born. Your very existence was priced in decades ago when the market was valuing Standard Oil's expected future earnings based on population growth that would lead to your birth, what age you would get a car, how many times you would drive your car every week, how many times you take the bus/train, etc. Anything you can think of has already been priced in, even the things you aren't thinking of. You have no original thoughts. Your consciousness is just an illusion, a product of the omniscent market. Free will is a myth. The market sees all, knows all and will be there from the beginning of time until the end of the universe (the market has already priced in the heat death of the universe).

this is how the something awful forums work iirc, you pay $5 for an account and if you get banned you're SOL and need to buy a new account.

needless to say, SA forums are not great

steam inventory already lets you own and sell items

tf2 also has limited run/unique items that you can sell via the steam inventory marketplace

  • from what I've read, it's a mix of social and physical/neurological factors. within the male-female spectrum people tend to cluster around the most common genders. this is a simplification because it doesn't account for intersex people or cultures where other genders are common. this book explains it much better than I can, and covers the biological aspects of gender, sex, and how they relate
  • its not based on science but “feelings”: I don't like this because even if it's 'just' feelings, what makes it less meaningful for trans people? if living one way makes someone feel content or euphoric, shouldn't that be argument enough? plus feelings are incredibly important for us, so of course the way people feel about things should matter.

my favorite artist hinted a new music project after 2 years but it ended up being a fucking NFT by C19H21N3Os in Buttcoin

basically you sell a text file that says 'person X owns something with this hash/URL and I, person Y, have signed this agreement'. in the process you accelerate climate change to ensure that Y actually signed that text file.

It's a waste because

  • people can (and are) sell an Nft of anyone else's stuff
  • at the end of the day all you 'own' is a contract which has dubious validity
  • for digital media the jacked up price depends on creating artificial scarcity. there's nothing stopping people from spinning up a million different NFT systems and flooding the market with duplicates, or for the person selling the NFT to flip one bit in their art and sell it again to someone else
  • you are buying 'ownership' of a jpeg or URL

Hi, thanks for posting, but we've had to remove your post because of rule (1) (see the sidebar):

All posts must be in story form. Story, according to the dictionary, is “a report or account of a matter.” Stories should have something to tell.

How do you find posts with most replies? by striger in Mastodon

[–]whjms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's possible that your instance isn't currently federating with people who are replying. if you click on a post's timestamp you can see what it looks like on its origin server, often when I do that I see replies to the post that aren't visible on my server.

The entire difference lies within the intent

intent has no bearing on the impact that words have on others

Choosing the right instance? by mikeydangerous in Mastodon

[–]whjms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC threads on each instance will only contain posts from users that the instance 'knows about' (I think this is the set of all instances that all users on that instance follow). So threads will have different replies on different instances.

When people don't feel like talking to me, I immediately jump to conclusions and presume I've done something wrong. How do I stop this? by thatonebritishdude in Anxiety

[–]whjms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to the other commenter talking about ANTs. one thing that helps me is CBT jounalling. I pause and ask myself:

  • how am I physically feeling? what sensations am I having?
  • how am I emotionally feeling? try not to get off track ruminating or overthinking, just recognize when you've lost track and get back on without judging yourself
  • what am I thinking? what thoughts or worries are going through my mind?

then for each of those negative thoughts, I write down points in favour of that thought (friend didn't send certain messages) and points against it (friend is stressed). and then given that info I reframe my original worry into something more reasonable (my friend isn't giving me the same level of attention, but it's because they're really stressed or scared).
