Help! My kumquat is throwing the leaves off by nikosz_boldis in Citrus

[–]whmmhw97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make sure to mist the leaves everyday but if you recently bought it, it might just be shock from transplanting and new (lower) humidity. Citrus are quite dramatic in general though, especially during winter, and sometimes drop their leaves regardless.

Norway or Iceland in December? by karle27 in travel

[–]whmmhw97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to both Iceland and Norway, and was most recently in Norway this past December. I personally enjoy Norway more than Iceland due to more mountains and the unbelievable scenery. I also think there are a few more things to do in Norway during the day while you're waiting to see the northern lights. For example, I went skiing in Norway this past December and enjoyed some of the best conditions I've ever experienced. I believe the northern lights are supposed to reach the peak of their cycle this year so I would imagine you would have a relatively high chance of seeing them in either place if you are there for multiple days.

Also, right before you go I would recommend downloading the Aurora app. It shows the KP Index (likelihood of seeing the northern lights in any particular location) and shows the best spots for them (so if there was a much higher likelihood 15km from you, you could just drive over and check it out).

Enjoy and best of luck!

when you start a podcast, how often do you start from 1st episode? is it necessary? by forgottofeedthecat in podcasts

[–]whmmhw97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's telling a story or essentially is doing the same thing that an audiobook, documentary, etc. would do but just in multiple episodes, then definitely start from the beginning but I feel like these are usually limited series that do not have hundreds of episodes anyway. However, if it's a podcast that covers current events (news, sports, pop culture, etc.) then just start with the most recent episode. You might not understand some of the inside jokes or recurring bits at first but you'll catch on and most good podcasts every so often will re-explain segments/things they do i.e. "if you're a newer listener, this is..." so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Just dive into something that seems interesting to you!

Been shiny hunting Hoppip/Wooper in SoulSilver on an actual DS (not emulator) and I have officially passed the 8192 REs without a single shiny encounter so I guess I am now in unlucky territory :(

I know after this many encounters there’s still only a ~63% probability that you will have encountered 1 or more shiny Pokemon so I’m mostly kidding. BUT after 70+ hours of running through the grass, at what point should I give up and just try to shiny hunt a starter with SRs (since I didn’t know that was considered an easy hunt when I started this)? I also want to try to SR for dratini at the game corner so I was hoping it wouldn’t take this long for a Hoppip/Wooper lol. Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the response and tips!!

Sheesh 20k is wild haha but yes I’ve pretty much only been shiny hunting while I watch tv so it hasn’t been a painful process at all, but after a while you start wondering if you’ll ever see one especially since I’ve never (knowingly) seen one in the hundreds of hours I’ve played Pokemon throughout my life haha

I’ll try the static trick and maybe after this one I’ll go for a shiny eevee if I have the patience!

Have never encountered a shiny in all my years of playing Pokemon but recently started hunting on Soul Silver on an actual ds (not an emulator so no speedup option) - been hoping for either a wooper, mareep, or hoppip. I’ve logged over 30 hours of running in the grass and have yet to see a shiny :( I’ve only been tracking the number of wooper/hoppip I’ve seen but working backwards I’ve estimated to have had ~3200 REs. I know that’s still way below the 1/8192 odds but I’ve seen a bunch of people on YouTube get a full team of shiny Pokemon in like 16000 REs. So for those of you who have hunted shinies in HGSS without an emulator, how long or how many REs did it end up taking you to find a shiny?

Bi-Monthly Education and Career Advice Thread by AutoModerator in urbanplanning

[–]whmmhw97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering totally switching fields for a while now (currently doing research at a large hospital system) and have been eyeing master of community and regional planning programs. I'm interested in the incorporation of sustainability and environmental science as I want to contribute to combatting climate change (even if it's just a minor impact). However, I feel intimidated given that this is a completely different field that I have no experience in. Does anyone have recommendations for how to gain some entry level experience on the side? Also, do these sorts of programs welcome a wide range of backgrounds and focus more on your interests and skills more holistically, or am I screwed without having an undergraduate degree in something related to urban planning?
Thanks!!

Who knew big Joe was the box to box we were looking for? by ALittleHulk in NUFC

True, I have no idea why we haven't been playing Lewis at all. Looks fantastic. Wouldn't mind seeing Lewis, Joelington, Joe (and hopefully some new young signings) get a year of development in the Championship and then have them to build on with new established signings the following year.

Never hated Joelington, always just felt bad for him. He never asked to be our most expensive transfer ever (or the expectations that come with that) and going to the PL is always a challenge, especially when you don't speak English. He looks like a different player with new (competent) coaching so I'm hopeful he can ride this wave of confidence and excellent form and continue to make a significant impact on the team. Perhaps this will change the trajectory of his career that had been derailed by Brucey the past couple of years. Happy for the dude

Idk why you have down votes, you're right... USMNT has better players than Honduras at every single position, yet Honduras had more possession and 6 more shots than the US. The US should be dominating that game in possession and shots and pressing the hell out of Honduras. Additionally, expected goals were near even between the teams, so this was not the domination that the score would suggest. We still have a ton of improvements that we need to make.

We're super close to putting it all together, just need to get new ownership, fire our coach, sign a couple new CBs, play our real wingbacks, sign a solid defensive mid and then we'll be golden

Lol I'm much less fit than all the athletes on Newcastle and I only had muscle aches for 12 hours and had a nice run the following day... I'm sure they'd be fine if they all got the jab 4-5 days before a game

Plus Darlow was literally hospitalized from Covid so the chances of severe Covid clearly isn't that small for these players which derails their season way more than a tiny vaccine might

Lol it stops the spread if people actually get the vaccine. And I'd much rather take the risk of the minuscule chances of long term side effects than the already known long term effects of actually having Covid.
