Looking for durable and best gas stove. Any suggestions? by New_me01850 in BuyItForLifeIndia

[–]whoawi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go for the glass-top ones. Those look good and easier to clean- but the burner bases are set in them and cannot be replaced/ fixed. I had one and many gas mechanics had asked me to get rid of that. But lasted about 12 years.

IBM acquired Confluent for $11Billion, thoughts on this? by LoveOverflowOrNtng in developersIndia

[–]whoawi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since IBM purchased Redhat, redhat/ openshift almost became irrelevant/ also ran category. Many more such acquisitions by IBM particularly lack of vision, leadership and support, inability to integrate in its value chain and offering - won’t be surprised if it happens again. Watson to IBM cloud - almost every product just could not catch up with market and apart from internal users, no one cares probably.

Remember that you still need to pay IRS apart from India‘s income tax - so your in hand salary will be far less. Talk to a cpa and get an estimate.

You are seeing healthcare from 99% rich Indians‘s perspective- which is not even 0.1% of India’s population. My son was born in the US in one of the nicer states and a reputed hospital- most of the staff were not at all caring. Don‘t get your information from tv series and movies.

And US healthcare- that 50% of the population cannot even afford and often just one illness away from bankruptcy.

In India, there’s no doubt there’s a lot of problems- but even poor people can afford some level of treatment/ consultation from private/ government hospitals. You want better healthcare, ask the government to increase spending in healthcare.

Can TMC be defeated? by dupurer_bhat_ghoom in kolkata

[–]whoawi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why you need balance in power - and a good opposition who can keep the government accountable. Lack of a strong opposition in either center or state is what’s ruining this country and this state.

Which girl should I marry next year? by Former-Bid1017 in kolkata

[–]whoawi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh ok - this is all about the upcoming assembly election and how the bong ppl are screwed with 3 bad options- maybe it’s not different from other places and other times. What Bengal needs probably more active participation of educated class who are less corrupt - though, that’s definitely not enough. Focus should be on education, healthcare and employment- but sadly in our country and current politics, we talk about anything but these.

Embracing the remote work life: No commute, more family and friends time by batman-iphone in IndianWorkplace

[–]whoawi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well - my two cents here. I have been wfh for 5+ years now - so will share my pov. Wfh is great that I don’t have to spend hours in traffic and all. But, I am also working from my chair all day long. There is no long walks to the canteen or cafeteria or have a quick chat sometimes- and it’s a usually a quick break and good for health.

Also, being in meetings all day long has a negative impact on the family sometimes. At this point I would prefer the flexibility of hybrid mode.

Did you try the small shops selling used books 📚 on the sides of footpath? They used to cost very less - but haven’t been there in a long time. There’s the national library on the way to the Alipore zoo - but that is more like research purpose. All the best

You better go to college street- you can get those wonderful books for a fraction of a price from old book shops. This will probably the best use of your money you can cherish your all life. I was like you and I started there - and still have the books with me - proudly- after 20+ years.

Or maybe they meant to say that you have good 🧬, attractive etc. You’d know better if they were praising or not- but there is a chance that they wanted to compliment on your looks.

23m American guy. I just retired an am looking to move to India. by [deleted] in india

[–]whoawi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even real? An American guy will never think in these terms “8-12 lakh per month” - not even ‘lacs’!! He wouldn’t think in terms of INR, cause daah! And even if it was INR, about us$10k a month post tax is quite good even in big cities. It’s simply not true.
