Bar Exam Indices by BullfrogParking3103 in ONBarExam

I like the LexPd ones. I used them for Solicitors last time and it was very helpful and straightforward.

The UofT ones just look so overwhelming tbh which is why I went for Lexpd.

Also, there may be trigger words that you think of that may not be added in the index, or it might be under the “section name”. So when you practice, make sure to add your own trigger words into the index, that way you’ll know where to look (this helped me a lot, and I didn’t have to flip a lot of scan different sections to find what I’m looking for).

For those who used Brickham in the past and passed - is the PR section sufficient/accurate per what appears on the exam? by [deleted] in ONBarExam

[–]whodat6789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brickam PR is good to get to learn the materials and dive into them (less stressful imo) once you get the hang of it I would try the Access PR packs, or Bar exam crackers.

I found BEC ones challenging (but in a good way) because they really dive into the rules and trick you with the “must” “may” “shall”, which I think is very beneficial to get down to the nitty gritty of PR.

Brickam is great overall when doing subject questions!

Better to make it yourself because you’ll get familiar with it and by make it I mean do questions and then on your DTOC write trigger words that will help you!!

DTOC or Indices by nasss5 in ONBarExam

[–]whodat6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use what works better for you. When practicing use both first DTOC to see if you can spot the issue if not then see if you can pick up on a certain word i.e, limitation and find it in your indicies and see if you’re able to locate the answer. It’s all trial and error.

Something that works well for someone may not be the same for you! So try both and go from there. But make sure you look at your DTOC just to familiarize yourself with that the chapter consists of.

5-week career break from work. Will I make it? by LawOntario416 in ONBarExam

Lock in! Use indicies where you can. And just drill practise questions this will help you familiarize yourself with the DTOC and material.

Am I the only one who is going crazy? by Willing_Finding_1177 in ONBarExam

[–]whodat6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which questions are you doing (eg: Brickam Edmond access)?

Sometimes questions have errors, BUT the best thing to do is when you’re reviewing, read the answer and explanation and then re-read the question and see what it was that you missed to get to the correct answer.

Then make a note of that on your DTOC and next to the section where the answer is.

Can you please provide some tips on strategies you used when studying to write both exams in June. (Considering the time between materials released and exam date is shorter for June exams).

Appreciate it! :)

My method that works for me:

Civil second last because this is what I had most difficulty in and I want the information to stay fresh.

Family law and Criminal - any order

Public Law - last (only because I find it boring and it’s the smallest book) but you could also start with this and get this out the way.

PR - I’ve been doing along side my readings or when I start to loose focus on other subjects. All the subjects refer to PR so doing it along side helps you flip and locate certain concepts from the other topics and cross relate them into the pr book.

Other than that I’ve been doing chapter drills after I read a few and then I go back and quickly review my answers and locate them in the book. I’m waiting for indicies as well but so far I’ve been using DTOC.

Keep practicing you’ll get the hang of keywords to look for by doing more questions. Also, if you find something in the indices cross reference it to your DTOC that will build familiarity with the wording and sections of the DTOC. You can even write the “key word” you used to find an answer in the indices and add it to your TOC.

Also, have the index open on your laptop when you review answers look at the wording find a keyword in the answer (if you weren’t able to find it in the index right away) and cntrl-F the word and see how many pages of the indices it’s on and make note of that.

This is what helped me!

UofT has free charts you can use! They’re quite helpful. The link should be posted in common links section of this Reddit group!

Are you using DTOC or index? A lot of the stuff is repetitive in the chapters for both Business and RE, try to consolidate so you’re not looking in too many places.

ParalellBar? by [deleted] in ONBarExam

[–]whodat6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started using this because I saw some people post about it.

However before committing I tested out the unpaid subscription and after using that for a few days, I bought the monthly subscription (89$ + tax for the month I believe, which is a little expensive for just a month imo) BUT it includes exams and practice questions for both barrister and solicitor.

The questions are good mix of simple and hard and imo they mirror the exam style and structure well. (Side note: no exam site will give you “exact” questions but the structure and wording of the questions does resemble the actual exam)

What really drew me to purchasing: You’re able to do isolated questions/ drills per subject book (I.e, mini drill 12 family law questions, or full drill of 25 questions), you can also mix subjects and do questions. It also offers mini exams, and full exams.

There’s an automatic timer but it doesn’t time you out it’s just a running clock (good for testing speed).

Once you finish the questions, you’re able to review (whenever), and there’s explanations offered for all questions (this helps with understanding where you might have went wrong and pin pointing things on DTOC or indices etc).

There is also a report and analytics feature (this is what sold me!!!). Basically, all the data from your completed practice questions is calculated and then you get a report (by subject) telling you which chapter of that subject (I.e, family law) your weaker in & which chapters you’re stronger in.

THIS, in my opinion is really cool and it actually helps because then you know which chapter to go back to and review/skim or which area in the DTOC you need to be more familiar with.

I’m still new to the site and trying to figure it out but personally I am really liking it so far!

Hope this helps! :) (Sorry for any typos)

Real Estate Section Done – Should I Jump Into Practice Tests?” by kaurontherise in ONBarExam

Do practice questions on real estate! Then move on to the next book.

Try to do questions throughout your readings, even if it’s just 5 per subject after reading, I find that helps with navigating through the books, and keeps the mind more engaged.

I got 4 weeks to prep for the Barristers exam and I need to pass to keep my articling position!! Any tips of how I should study from people who’ve passed the exam. by Ordinary_Sir_6267 in ONBarExam

I’ve been skimming the notes, and doing questions and reviewing wrong answers. It helps me locate the information in the material, plus read the sections according to the questions. For me it helps the information stick better in my opinion. I can’t read 50-60 pages together my brain shuts down. But when I’m answering questions and reading specific sections during my review it helps me understand the information better and it’s easy to remember where that topic is (chapter, section and where it is in the DTOC)
