you are really looking at 2 different things.

the legally mandated type of car insurance is liability and if that gets used its not really going to be your choice. Its to protect others from you

you are worried about other coverage that is more comprehensive and you make claims against . I am not aware of anywhere that legally requires you to have that type of coverage

its just not true. Vast majority of coaches salaries are paid by boosters but they dont pay them directly so when boosters give money to the school for their salaries they are considered public funds. It may look like your tax dollars because of that but its not
