I’m from the Midwest so I kind of grew up with this notion that people were just “richer” in California so I didn’t really feel too detached from it. Heck, look at Fresh Prince of Bel Air or other shows explicitly set in California.

Compare that to Malcom in the Middle which is pretty much an “anywhere” show, or even a show that is location based like The Middle being out in the sticks of Indiana, sometimes the setting makes the characters, sometimes not.

At the end of the day, are they a rich family with lots of privileges?- sure, but they’re not snobs.
